What do you know about scarlet fever?
One of our guests told me her DC has this but the MD said she could come to Ryan's party. I am asking them not to come bc one of my other guest's son had heart surgery last wk and that makes me nervous - but i know nothing about it

I had it 7 times! It is caused by the Strep virus. When I used to get it, it started as Strep Throat and then the rash would appear. The rash could last long after a person is no longer contagious. If the person has already taken antibiotics it should be OK.

Re: What do you know about scarlet fever?
all I know about it that my sister had it as a baby and my mom told us that she was BURNING up so hot she was hallucinating (she asked my mom why there was a fireplace in her bedroom - there was NO fireplace, she was just so hot from fever)

Re: What do you know about scarlet fever?
My nephew had it while I was pregnant with Ryan. I totally flipped. Then found out it is just another form of Strep typically caused when Strep goes untreated. Usually has high fever involved.
But I am fairly certain once on antibiotics for a certain time period you are no longer contagious.

Re: What do you know about scarlet fever?
Chloe is 13 months old and had strep a few weeks ago. She had a fever with no other symptoms so the ped said it was probably just a virus. She broke out in a rash and we went back to the ped. He tested for strep and sure enough it was. Im not sure if this is considered scarlet fever.. but I think it could be. He said the rash is not contagious. Once on antibiotics for 1 day she would not be contagious anymore.
