I know a lot of people who live in Sayville and they love it. Many grew up there and then bought houses. However, if you work in NYC, commute is 2 + hours each way.

Re: Sayville

Something is always going on in Sayville... this weekend is the Summerfest... end of August is the Seafood Festival... They have the Pirate Festival in the spring and the Harvest Festival in the Fall. There is a farmer's market from Memorial Day thru November at the Grange on the corner of Broadway and Montauk Hwy every Saturday. There are tons of restaruants and cute little shops on main St. The school district is small and close knit. There are a lot of little pocket neighborhoods thru out and the home prices are not too terrible... I've seen them drop a bit over the past few years.

Re: Sayville

The idea of moving scares me but I think this will be a great thing for our family. I love hearing all these positive things. I think my first step is to check out the area go to events and get a feel of the neighborhood.

Re: Sayville

I've never heard anything negative about the town. I also have heard it's a wonderful school district.

I know several people who live there now.

I love going there. dh's cousin lives there, so when I visit, we walk in to town and literally spend the day there shopping in all of the stores.

Great community. Great schools. Cute town, lots of little shops and some restaurants. Family friendly - theres always something to do. There are houses is various price ranges and taxes vary greatly so you can most likely find what fits your budget.
It's about an hour and twenty minutes to manhattan by train and a bit less by car. There are a good amount of commuters.
We live walking distant to main street and the bay, I'm never leaving, haha.

I grew up here went to school from K-12 there. My parents had to move after my sister graduated but I still have family there. I would love to move back there one day to raise a family. The schools are great, the neighborhoods are great and its always nice to walk down to town in the summer. Its close to the ferries. The train is right there. The housing prices have dropped there but the taxes are a little high but nothing outragous. Good Luck!

Re: Sayville

I know some areas of sayville were affected by sandy. Coming from queens where I was hit pretty hard by sandy I don't want to fall in love with a house and then find out its in a potential flood area. Can you tell me which section was hit?

Anything south of montauk had an issue, and really only super south. There are plenty of homes south if montauk that weren't bothered at all. You want to avoid candee, south Gillette, south handsome ave those a areas. Any blocks that lead to the water. Other than that Sayville is a great place to be.

I think west Sayville near the marina got hit worst. And the houses on canals, and the ones blocks from the water, but really Sayville didn't get hit too bad considering, fire island takes a big hit first so most of Sayville fares pretty well in storms.

I live in Sayville, if you have any specific areas in question feel free to FM me!

Beautiful downtown. The only place on the south shore that has a nicer one is Babylon Village. BV is excellent for city commute. Perhaps include that in your search.

I'm third generation born and raised in Sayville. People grow up and stay in the area forever- which can be a good thing if you don't mind seeing everyone you went to HS with every time you run to Stop and Shop.
