SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
I'm on the fence for my 4 year old DD. I was thinking I might send her when she was a bit older. Now I'm thinking of maybe a short session or a few days a week.

Dh is a stay at home dad and we absolutely send her to camp. Even just a few days a,week. She would be bored out of her mind sitting home all summer and she would drive DH nuts

SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
I am a teacher so I am home all summer, and yes, my 6 yr old & 4 yr old will go to camp. They are both going the whole month of July, M-TH 9-12. IMO, it's the perfect balance of camp and being at home.

SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
I'm a teacher and my son goes to daycare "camp" 2 days a week. He's 3. It keeps him in a routine and helps my sanity.

SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
YUP!!!! our town ( in NJ) has a program for kids who are 3.5- 5.5 years old. its 3 AM's a week (8:30-11). so DS did that for 3 summers. This year he's doing a similar one through the town, but for school age kids (he's just finishing K). They need to get out of the house and away from us- for at least a little while! i like the half day thing, too bc it still gives us time to do the beach, pool, playdates with friends, whatever...

SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
Nope. I like having freedom to do what we want rather than being tied down to camp schedules.

SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
Dd is doing 2 weeks of camp and 2 weeks of swim through the town. Needed to get her out of the house so she doesn't lose her mind especially since I'll have a newborn at that time.

I am this year
It's 930-1230 at the school where they did upk and will go to kindergarten next year
It's in the kindergarten classrooms so I figured it would be a great way to introduce them to the k stuff

Yup! My DS is 3 1/2 and going to camp 5 days a week.
It's not sleepaway there'll be plenty of togetherness after camp.

Re: SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
I'm newly SAH...
I'm sending DS (almost 7) for 2 weeks. He wanted to go.
DD did not want to go... she's 5 and has been in preschool for the last 2 years. She wants to just relax with our youngest (almost 2).
We do Day trips every day. I love it... I don't like having the summer without the kids and they like having no structure for a while. We do everything from pool, beach, zoo, park, to further trips when both are off. Even hours of gardening and play doh. This year, we will be riding bikes.
They will be both on a pre swim team... so that's about as much structure as I can take. It gets us up early in the AM.
Most people who are SAH in my town have kids in camp all summer. I'm definitely the exception.

Ditto! I do sign up for mini camps here and there. Sewing camp is a week, Girl Scout camp is 4 days, and we often do a couple of days of gymnastics camp. I joke that *I* am the camp counselor because we do something just about everyday in the Summer

Re: SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
No I want my kids to have a break from from it all! I want them to get up a play, go in the pool when they want, sleep in and most of all I don't want to be on a schedule. They are doing swimming lessons for 2 weeks for an hour a day and that is the most I wanted to commit myself too.
What the hell ever happened to getting up in the summer and just playing?

Re: SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
DS is 7 and is getting free camp/tutoring through school district because he has special needs that need to be met. As for DD who will be 5 this summer ...no, just a gymnastics class once a week. I figure next year I will put her into something through the village for 3 hours a day

Re: SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
Nope! We are so scheduled and busy during the school year. The kids really look forward to being able to sleep in and relax. We have a mix of lazy days and fun busy days plus play dates with friends and family. We sometimes do mini camps such as bible camp. They are 3-4 hours for 5 days.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if it's an LIF thing that most kids go to camp. Other than the ymca, the camp costs I've seen are so high. I would think it would be unaffordable for many families. I might compromise and send her part of the summer. I don't think I want to send her 9-4 (prbably 8-5 with bus) for 8 weeks.

My kids are up at 5,530. Camp is 930
They have plenty of time to play lol
This camp through school was not expensive, they get to see their friends and are home by 1235. We still have the whole day

Same, except my boys will give me until 7. I pick them up at noon, and there is no camp on Friday. Lots of time for beach, pool, backyard, day trips, etc. They are doing the camp at the Catholic school where my older DS goes, and my younger one will go in Sept. It was very affordable.

I don't think it's a lif thing. Every kid I knew growing up went to day camp and then by third grade sleepaway camp. Every one of the kids I know now also go to camp.

Re: SAHM's - do you send kids to camp?
Sleepaway camp is totally a Long Island thing. No one I knew in Iowa went to sleepaway camp and rarely say camp. It's pretty rare in Massachusetts too. The Costs for camp are crazy. Growing up In Long Island My mother was home all summer ( teacher) and as s kid I went to all day day camp than sleepaway camp. Honestly I think she preferred her time without me there haha. I was always jealous of the kids that spent their summers with their family so I try to do that now with my own kids

Same. I grew up in Brooklyn till 4th grade but I went to camp starting the summer before I turned 3.
Most of my DS's friends are going to camp as well, so no I don't think it's an LIF thing. LIF is relatively minuscule compared to all the camps that are kept in business by families who never heard of this website lol.
