SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

I became a sahm a couple of months ago (well I work 1-2 days a week) and I am fortunate enough to have child care a few days a week (my mom!) and yet I feel like I dont get anything done. I think part of the problem is that I am at DD"s beck and call and rarely leave her alone for her to play by herself alone bc she crys and rather than let her cry it out and get used to it in time I just go to her (I know I need to work on this!) . But also I think I am just not very organized with my time the way I was when I worked. I am always trying to do 10 thing at once and feel like I never get anything done rather than say set a schedule where I block time out for errands, work, play etc.. I feel like even when I am spending time with DD it is not always quality time bc I am stressing over the 9 other things I need to do!

Just wondering-- do the SAHM moms out there have a schedule they stick to every week. Does it help you be more productive or at least organized?

Re: SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

I tried to have a set schedule in the beginning, but it didn't last long. DS made the schedule for me.. I try to plan things to do during the weekend for the upcoming week. Day trips, shopping, library, parks, etc. A lot depends on DS's mood (he is 3).. and then the crappy weather hasn't been helping. I like to take some time during the day to just tidy up a bit, but the main cleaning takes place when he is sleeping at night... Just try and stick to a couple of things a day and then work up from there...

How old is your DD? For the first few months I got nothing done because DD cried every time I tried to put her down. But around four months old she finally started to be ok with hanging out in her bouncer seat or pack n play for a little while so I could get some things done. Now she can play with her little toys or if I put sesame st on it makes her giggle and keeps her attention for a little while. I just put her bouncer seat in whatever room i am in so she can see me and i talk to her while im working. I don't have a schedule though. I don't think that would be possible to stick to it since you never know when your dd will need you. I just try to multi task as best as possible and take advantage of any free moment when dd doesn't need me. Some days my house looks great and I get a nice dinner on the table, but other days the house is a disaster and we get take out.

My boys are older, 3.5 & 2.5 so I.am able to clean while they play. They are also in the stage where they want to help. I don't like to do much but laundry on the weekends bc its our family time.

I vacuum daily, mop floors on Monday & Friday, dust on tuesdays. Bathrooms get done on Wednesday. Laundry is done 3-4 times a week.

Thanks ladies. DD is almost 16 months old. Im less worried about a cleaning schedule (althogh my DH would probably disagree) but feel like perhaps I need to designate certain days as "gym" day, certain days as "play date" days, certain days as " errands/cleaning days" and in my case since I work on a very PT basis certain days as "work days".

I don't have any schedule, just take each week as it comes. We do a lot of library programs and some weeks there are none and other weeks we're there twice. I try to get out and do something most days so if we don't have the library or a playdate then I try to at least get out to run errands. Then again, sometimes it all goes out the window bc DD is cranky or I'm stir crazy or too tired to get out.

If I were you, I would probably try to make a schedule for each week to decide what to do with each day in advance. I wouldn't try to keep it the same every week since I get bored easily.

Re: SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

I work part time 4 afternoons a week so my days are spent with DS. We have a loose schedule, and it's selfishly based around me. Chat Icon I like to go to the gym most mornings so DS plays there for an hour while I take a class. Then I usually try to run and errand or two while we're out- usually the regular supermarket one day, Trader Joes one day. I try to plan one play date or lunch date with friends who have kids. On nice days I try to get us outside at least for a little while- we play ball in the back yard, go for a walk, to the park, chalk on the driveway, blow bubbles. And then of course you can also join a class or do free activities offered at the library.

SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

Working part time as well - 3 days on 2 days off - My schedule is kinda dictated by him. I try and get as much done ( tidying up, cleaning here and there, run out and do a couple of errands) - but I am not going crazy. I am home to be with him...eventually I will go back to work FT so thats my logic.

Re: SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

My Mornings become crazy hectic if there is no routine. So here is my morning.

630 everyone always happens to wake up at the same time lol...
My 3 yr old plays with dh for a little bit while I make coffee and prepare a bottle and feed.
Baby is fed she plays independently, while I have dd1 help me make a quick breakfast for everyone.
While everyone else's eating breakfast at 7...I make the lunches and bag them.
Dh takes shower and gets ready while I dress dd1 for school and brush her teeth.
Playtime with both kids as dh leaves....8am
School time for dd1 and nap time for dd2 830
Mommy breathes and drinks coffee lol

While dd2 is napping, I rest a little, shower quick and eat. After that I throw in a daily load of laundry quick! I don't sort. I empty the clean dishes from the dishwasher and load it with the dirty dishes. I also sweep and wipe counters. Then I usually have time to play on the computer.

Baby wakes up eat, play...it's all about her
I did everything crucial while she napped so I can give her all the attention.

Second nap130. I will prepare dinner ahead of time. And stick it inthe fridge to be warmed up when we are ready. I also throw the wet laundry inthe dryer. I can run errands here too...she will napin the car ...but if she doesn't it ruins everything lol so I usually try to stay home for naps.

Dd1 gets home from school, snack time for everyone! Then we all do a craft or play...maybe a show on tv.
430 baths for both girls
Everyone is dressed hair is combed, and calm from their baths. Dd1 helps me do a quick cleanup and pickup.
530 the girls eat dinner.
6 dh hopefully is home, he plays with the girls while I heat up our dinner.
630 we eat. While the girls play
7-730 bed time for the girls

Mommy and daddy time. I can go out, read.....

So my days are strictly routine, the girls thrive ont and so do I. I would be lost. My house isn't sparkling, I do what's have to to get by. Whatever doesn't get done..will eventually get done on the weekends.

Re: SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

I have a 2.5 yr old and a 10 month old. I don't have any set schedule for the week. I sort of have a daily schedule for the kids. We do have some sort of routine, as far as meals, naps, baths. I always say to myself I'll get xyz done and I barely get to x during the day. My younger dd has major seperation anxiety so its hard to get anything done around the house without holding her in my arms. I sort of just go with the flow and I know I work good under pressure and choas so that helps.

No honestly I don't get much done. The 2 kids are very demanding and I get annoyed w them if I'm trying to get something done.

I have them on a schedule but not a housework schedule

Re: SAHM - Do you have a set weekly schedule?

I am all over the place too…I want a schedule and I have it planned out in my head but it never happens. My DD takes short naps so it is hard to get much done. I feel like I barely have enough time to empty the dishwasher, do laundry, fix myself breakfast and lunch, take a shower and then prep dinner. I try to squeeze that all in while she naps or while she is on her playmat. Oh and sometimes I get a workout in. But it is hard to get vacuuming or other big stuff done.

But anyway as far as days of the week…I try to get any heavy cleaning done Mon and Tues…that way it is DONE and I can do other things during the week. Play date and errands are usually Thurs or Fri. I do try to go on walks or runs with DD 2 days a week (Tues/Thurs).

I dunno I think I want to try and type something up - like a daily routine I prob won't stick to it but I can try???
