Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

I'm thinking of doing this with my dd who will be about 9-10 months when we do it.

Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

I used them when my DD was 4 months old, we started her in the Bellmore location. It was pretty bad. The "instructors" are usually 13-16 years old and too busy chit chatting or looking at the cloock to pay close attention to your LO. On at least 3 occasions I drove from Lindenhurst to Bellmore just to be in the parking lot and get a call that the pool ws closing for cleaning, meaning someone had an accident in the pool. We were then given a make-up certificate that could only be used when they could fit your kid in. Basically I had to call early in the AM and hope the could fit my kid in that same day. Very annoying when the missed class was due to them closing not me missing. The last straw was I asked to update my daughter recors when we found out about allergies and the LOST her file. All her personal and medical info, emergency contact etc..GONE nowhere to be found. The front desk is run by a dizzy 18 year old who seemed to have no clue or not care. I left and never looked back. It was awful. We tried British swim school and it was better.

It depends on your location. I've used East Meadow and Oceanside. Love the Oceanside location and have great instructors for my kids. Did not like the East Meadow one at all. It's located in the NY sports club and the staff was very disorganized.

We go to the SafTSwim in New Hyde Park. I do agree with the other posters, most instructors are 14-17 years old and barely trained at all. Organization is lacking and the instructors are very distracted and do not give 100% to the kids. However my daughter is 8 years old and we found a great instructor and this works for us. I would not enroll a baby or small child there.

I went to levittown and for the baby and me its fun to get them used to the water. I signed up for a promotional deal and it was 50% off so not pricey for what I got. I would not go there for individual lessons.

I was also interested in using the Bellmore location for my 5.5 month old but maybe I should rethink it. I would think most swim instructors are young. so while I wouldn't hold that against them I would like to think they at least engage the babies. DH would be going in the water with her - he's a certified lifeguard and taught swimming himself all though high school and college. I have a feeling he'd try to take over the class if the instructors are nitwits!

Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

I used the Deer Park location and it was a nightmare.. I signed up for 6 weeks of classes and my instructor had cancelled on me twice in those 6 weeks.. I also teach HS and had a student who taught at their East Meadow location and he told me not to bring my daughter there.. he told me "none of us really give a s*** about our job, they pay us minimum wage and the bosses are a**holes"
BUT I started going to their location in Smithtown and I love it.. I have also heard good things about their Bohemia location.

My sister takes my nieces to the Levittown location and loves it. (I trust my sister since she is a former TOH swim instructor). The instructor she uses, however, is not a teenager. Older people work during the day on weekdays so if you are a SAHM try to schedule your lessons then. She researches the instructors ahead of time and will actually hold off on getting lessons until the good ones are available.

Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

I was going to the one Westbury and I did not love it. I am actually going back and forth with them right now because they messed up with my sessions and are trying to charge me for lessons that I already paid for. My DD did not have one steady instructor for her entire session. Every week someone was out and she was being passed to a sub. They held her and walked around the pool with her chatting with their friends. Every once in awhile they would pour water over her head or dunk her.

DS had an older woman and I actually really liked her. She actually taught him during his time. I wanted to stay for her but she had a waiting list (I wonder why Chat Icon) and I was just tired of the constant bs with my account and payment and being marked out on the wrong days and make ups not being used. My final straw was when they both got sick 3 weeks in a row and I wanted to hold off signing up for a new session and they told me that I was already swimming in a new session and that I owed them $200 for 3 half hour sessions. Ummm what? Show me the contract that I signed for this new session and then you will get your money. Its all kids working these places. I would find somewhere else if I were you.

I currently go to the bellmore location and have been there 7 weeks and am very happy. My daughter switched to different instructor bc of scheduling conflict and we love him. I do see the instructors talking but it doesn't really bother me.. My daughter is 17 months and likes the interaction with other instructors.

Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

I think it depends on the location and your instructor. With my first son I did the mommy and me class at the Commack location and it was HORRIBLE> I hated it. hated the instructor.

In February I started my 3 year old there for individual lessons and at first I was not happy because for 3 weeks he had 3 different instructors. I moved to Kalia in Commack and we LOVE her. My son is actually swimming on his own alittle and it is all because of her.

We had my younger one in private lessons before he was 6 months there (it was free). We are going to start him on private lessons at about 2 1/2 or so. We are going to do a mommy and me but not at Safety Swim since I hated it so much the first time!

We've used the smithtown location for the free infant swim instruction they offer. No complaints.

Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

We used the Bohemia location for my 3 yo... I agree with others... Our instructor was too busy socializing during the entire time... And to top it off, he wouldn't even be in his bathing suit ready to go until after the session began.... I couldn't stand to look at him... I rode out the 6 sessions and vowed to never go back... It was a social hour for most of them it seemed... The best was when he used our first swim lesson to train another staff member... Do that on your own time.... Not mine that I'm paying out the ass for... Never again! I've heard great things about the Y though so I'm going to look into that. And it's cheaper.

Saf-T Swim.. any experiences with them?

I hated it. I enrolled both of my kids. It was a 6 week session and our instructor was out 3 times. We learned NOTHING new in those 3 sessions and spent the majority of the half hour walking around the pool. It was terrible.

We hated it. Commack location. A different 16 year old each week dragged my kid around the pool by his arms for 30 minutes while 50 other kids were jumping in around him. It was expensive and he learned nothing. The YMCA lessons are 1000% better for us.

My DS went to the bellmore one at that age. He loved it and my DH (who went in with him) enjoyed it too.

I think the only other places are YMCA's and local/resident pool clubs. Or a private instructor.

I feel like Saf-T-Swim is my only option. They are expensive and frustrating and are a big source of stress in my life. But my daughter is learning from it. I can't say she is enjoying it but she has def. learned to swim underneath the water so i give them that!! I wish they helped her like it more but as long as she has the tools and safety down, that is all I care about for now.

We've been going to the Smithtown location for a year and I have no complaints. We have a great instructor and my DD (age 7) has grown as a swimmer by leaps and bounds. She was terrified of the water when she started, now she's swimming laps, jumping in, and swimming underwater. It's been a great experience for her at that location. My DS (age 3) has also been doing great. I recommend this location without hesitation!

We started out in Bellmore and it was okay. Then we started with the revolving door of instructors. It didn't work for my son who would be hysterical. We switched to New Hyde Park when they opened. We had a rough go at first with switching instructors. I lost my mind. I now have a very steady instructor who is AMAZING! We are so happy there and my son has made HUGE progress in just the year in just the time he's been with this instructor. My little one starts this week.
