Saf t swim
Which Nassau location would you recommend? Bellmore, East Meadow or Westbury?
Will be doing mommy and me classes, not ind lessons. He's 6 months

We had a horrible experience at East Meadow. The heater was left on overnight in the pool and it was over 100 degrees when they came in. They didn't call anyone to tell you not to come in, so we drove there, changed the kids, all for nothing. Then the staff had no clue what temperature it needed to be. It's all kids there, no one really in charge.

i had a bad experience in Bellmore. I took DS out and now he goes to World Gym in Wantagh and i LOVE it!

For those that wouldn't do Saf t swim what else would you suggest? We didn't make it into the classes at Eisenhower Park for this session, we'll try for the next one. We have a pool and I want DS to be use to the water by the summer.

As far as the mommy & me...its just to get the babies used to being in the water. You could probably just join an indoor pool on LI (town pool, YMCA, etc) and do this yourself for a ton cheaper.
Then if you want to proceed with individual lessons there, go and observe a few classes and find an instructor who really seems to be teaching. A lot of the instructors are teenagers and just carry the babies/toddlers around the pool and don't actually teach. You will find that very frustrating for the cost per lesson! Once you find an instructor you're satisfied with, you can request them.

My in laws have a pool and we are getting an inground pool (breaking ground any day between and the spring). It is VERY important to me for DS to be comfortable in the water which is why we signed up. I also work FT and wanted to do a special activity with him.
He was 6 months, and as much as he enjoyed being in the water and splashing around, there is nothing AT ALL that he will retain or that he was going to actually learn from the class. I did take from it some things to try next summer to help him learn but that was about it. It was a super quick 30 minutes and alot of working changing both of us before and after.

If your ds is 6 months old now, he won't be using the pool by summer, no matter how many lessons you go to.
Mommy and Me is basically standing in the pool together and dipping, spinning, etc. The babies barely know what's happening, lol.
IMO the individual classes are terrible bc they're all about separation. So you're kid is freaking out for you, and being tossed in the pool at the same time. Stupid, imo. Why can't kids learn to swim with their parent present?
I would look for a class elsewhere.

We hated saf t swim Westbury. Went to the one in Oceanside for a while, didn't hate it, but didn't love it.
Now going to eisenhower. The pool and pool deck are warner during the week for some reason btw.
The mommy and me classes are pretty much all the same, so I would pick on with the warmest pool and your general convenience until they graduate to "real" lessons. Then I would steer clear if saf t swim bc there's only kids working there, few real life guards teaching.

IMO jut wait til the summer and take him in the pool yourself. My ds started in the ocean on the boat. It's been 2 summers and he loves the water. Taking him to a class would have done nothing more than what I did except waste my time and money.

I do mommy and me in bellemore currently and I love it. Ds loves going into the water. It helps that we signed up with 6 other people so our class is all friends. We are signed up for the next mommy and me too. Even if they don't remember things it is going to get them used to the water and it's a great bonding for you and baby

We went to Bellmore and had a terrible terrible experience there. My daughter actually became terrified of the pool after one lesson there ( she was 4 and never had a fear prior). It was terrible. I pulled her right out and we do private swim lesson now. It took the whole summer to barely reverse the damage that safety swim did.

I know you asked for nassau locations but I just wanted to say my dd has learned so much for safety swim. We go to the bohemia location but she has also had two great instructors. I think its a great program to get a little one use to the water. My dd swims on her own now she is 3 and has been going for about 7 months.

That's a special for mommy and me- but after you do that class, the real lessons are $30 a class.

DS is in world gym and we're not members. i pay $269 for 8 sessions (compared to $249 for 6 at saf-t-swim). it comes to $33 a session, if you're a member its $30 a session. its totally worth it IMO. DS did saf-t-swim for 2 years and screamed the whole time. he's been in world gym for 2 months and already loves it. hes even putting his head under the water when he refused to do that before.
i would NEVER recommend saf-t-swim after the experience i had there. i never should have kept him there for 2 years.

We did one-on-one at the Bellmore location. We did 6 sessions. DD was 5 months when we started her and it was so she gets used to being in the pool. I just signed her up for another 6 sessions but at the Oceanside location starting in January. She will be doing one-on-one again. They are running a special right now on their website.
