We are voting it down as are most of our neighbors and we all have children either who attend school or will be. Our taxes have gone up 2,200 in the past 5 years. At some point we have to stop the bleeding.

Have you read what will happen to the kids schooling if the budget is not passed? For $40 more a month, I find it totally worth it for my kids to still have music, arts, jv sports, Gate and full day kindergarten.

Have you read what will happen to the kids schooling if the budget is not passed? For $40 more a month, I find it totally worth it for my kids to still have music, arts, jv sports, Gate and full day kindergarten.
They strong arm the parents into voting with all of these threats, and that annoys me.
Our district's budget was defeated last year. They were asking for something like 8% it was ridiculous. Then the budget was revised down to the NYS cap (under 3% I believe) and it passed. All of those threats were just nonsense. The only thing that changed was the buildings moved to a Princeton Plan (K-2 buildings, 3-5 buildings). AP classes weren't cut, they still have sports, still have clubs, etc. etc. etc.

everyone we know is voting no - Sachem does this every year - threats of cutting programs - then the budget doesnt pass and magically almost nothing gets cut. There are ways to cut costs without cutting programs and they need to start doing that.
And even if programs did have to get cut - id rather have that than have to move out of the district b/c we cant afford the taxes anymore.

$40 a month may be something extra some families have - but for some of us it means having to work more hours and be away from our children more. What about what those kids are missing out on?

There so much else that people arent seeing here - children of low income families in the district are getting hurt. Their parents have less money to put food on the table with and will have to work more hours and be away from them. Of course its nice for the kids to have these extra programs but at what cost?

This is different and for the last few years, our taxes have not gone up that bad. My total amount of taxes that went up for this year was $78. That was everything combined, not just the schools.
The budget has always passed in Sachem.
What would you propose get cut?

We've been in our house for 18 months and so far our taxes have gone up $876.02! We moved to this area because taxes were lower than Nassau. If it keeps going at this rate, I don't know what we'll do! 
ETA: $722.37 from School taxes -- it accounted for 82% of the increase.

Ok. I am in Islip and my taxes only went up $78 for the year, this year.
Did you grieve at all? My tax grievance savings of a whopping $432 doesn't get applied until next year. School tax alone went up $722.37 from 2011-2012. Town tax went up like $50.

Right, our district tried that scare tactic as well. Guess what, we still have K, full day, too!
People aren't getting raises these days, but everything else is going up, and the school has the nerve to ask for MORE. Sorry, but I have such issues with their poor money management. We could probably go back and forth all day on the issue though

Then consider yourself very lucky for that $78 increase. If mine go up every year like they did last year, I'll be paying almost 20k in taxes within 10 years.

Oh I do. It has gone up more in years past but I was very pleased this time I got my bill.
