SA question

I am going to apologize for the TMI beforehand, but I have a question. DH is going to go for a SA as per his urologist. They didn't specify how we can collect the sample. So my question, can i help him out Chat Icon & then just collect it directly into the sterile cup??? Is there suppose to be no contact with *ahem* her???

sorry again Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: SA question

My DH wouldn't do it himself (due to his religious beliefs) so we got a condom from the andrology lab and BD'd using it- we put the condom in the sterile container and had to get to the lab w/in an hour. HTH... Chat Icon

Re: SA question

Okay, first of all, gross, since he's my cousin.

Secondly...I wasn't allowed to "assist" with anything but my hand. Chat Icon

ETA: I wish you guys the best of luck. I know you've been TTC for a while, and I'm sure its going to be a snap once you figure out what's going on. Keep us posted!

As I typed it, I thought that exactly. If Lauren reads this Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ok, I guess it is going to be all hand action then! He is ok with it either way but I was just thinking which is easiest Chat Icon

I can honestly say that both of us are very relaxed since taking the next step. It is almost like we needed to hand the cards over to someone else! I will keep everyone updated.

I am thinking of you Lauren & all others Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: SA question

Just the hand. You can't have anything else "contaminate" the sample.
Good luck!

Chat Icon I'm glad that you're taking the step and you're both ready. And, as always, I'm rooting for you guys, too Chat Icon Chat Icon

By the way...as the moment gets close, I would have him take over. You can't miss any of the sample. Just have the container ready and waiting while the lovin' is going on.

Us too. DH would do it at the lab, since it was too much pressure to get the sample to the lab in an hour.

Same here. Plus he can be a klutz and was too worried/stressed that he might drop it on the way there.

Re: SA question

LOL...
OK, first time we had to do this it was horrible. We were lucky to be able to collect at home. BTW - if you do it at home, remember to get the cup from your RE office. I would always forget and have to search out pharmacy's and not all of them carry a sterile cup.

So, 1st try he did it on his own. He was really nervous. Time was going by...tick ...tick...I was getting nervous. Nothing...we get into a huge fight and get the smallest volume possible (4.1m).

But, the next 5 times (gosh thats crazy huh), I assisted. With my hand. We were told we could use mineral oil (it does not kill off sperm). When we made it more "fun", we got great samples (85m).

the one time he collected in the office for an SA, we got really bad volume also.

Good luck. Besides if you make it more fun (and i had to convince DH to let me help) it doesn't seem so medical. but, of course in the office you have no options there.
