The first several months (our girls were born premature) we didn't let ANYONE kiss the babies, except for me. I don't even think DH kissed them very much. Partly it was to spare the feelings of those in our families that do have herpes and also because we have so many school age cousins. It was easier to make it a rule for all.

Now they do get kissed but I still cringe and get so grossed out when someone kisses them on the mouth. I would NEVER kiss someones child on the mouth. I don't want to kiss any adults on the mouth. Too many italians in my family. Plus if you watch the room... one kisses someone on the mouth then those are kissing others on the mouth. Can't they just air kiss like everyone else does? No they show their love and respect with a full on lip kiss. Disgusting.

I did in the beginning. We kissed them but they are with us 24/7 and we are their parents. Now I dont mind if family kisses them but if they kissed them on the mouth I'd flip on them! I don't even kiss my own babies on the mouth. Eventhough they have the sweetest kissable wittle lips.

I would not let anyone kiss my kids on the mouth bc it's creepy imo. Someone who grew up like that would disagree. As far as herpes, the cdc estimates that 90% of people will have oral herpes by age 50. So, you can safely assume most people have it. I tested positive during labs but have never gotten a cold sore in my life.

Wow, that is a crazy statistic. I know we all carry around every virus we've ever been exposed to. But 90% thats crazy. It does seem like there are a lot of carriers of the herpes virus that are never symptomatic. It would be very interesting to see just how many people are carriers and don't even know it.

OMG I just posted about this. !! Crazy I came from a lip kissing family and honestly it literally was one day that I was like YUCK !

I dont kiss my DD on the lips no one else should or until shes 21 LOL!!

I come from a lip kissing family and I ended up getting the cold sore virus when I was 5 and it has been torture. I wouldn't wish cold sores on anyone. I get them anytime I get a fever and it is never one it is 2 or more and they hurt, take 2 weeks to heal, looks disgusting and it hurts to eat. Not to mention dealing with the social embarrassment of them. I didn't want my kids to have to go thought that, ever so we kiss them on the cheeks as does everyone else. A lot of people think that you have to have a cold sore in order to spread it but that's not the case. Although rare, it's still spreadable when you have the virus but not an active cold sore at the time. My sister found out that she was a carrier as well but she has never had a cold sore.

Do they have oral medications to help you cut down on outbreaks? Someone I know get them anytime she is run down, bangs her lip or is out in the sun. Have you tried supplements with immune support supplements like vitamins and echinacea etc.
