I am a medical researcher (admittedly, not vaccines). You know all those side effects you hear at the end of drug commercials? I review those long before the public hears about them. They sound scary, right? They're not. Say someone is participating in a trial for a new diabetes drug. They're in their 70's, have had years of uncontrolled blood sugar, hypertensive, etc. Two months after they start taking the drug they have a heart attack and die. Did the drug cause them to have the heart attack? Or did they have the heart attack because they walked around with blood sugars of 500 for 10 years and their blood pressure has been through the roof for just as long?
Vaccines are no different. They've been studied more than any other pharmaceutical compound on earth. We know there is no link. Andrew Wakefield, the original *******, fabricated his data. It was FAKE. He LOST HIS MEDICAL LICENSE. But what about all these kids who are perfectly fine and then they get their MMR and end up diagnosed with autism? The timing of an MMR vaccine and the timing of autism presenting itself overlap. Diagnostic tools for autism are better than they were 20 years ago. 1 in 68 children will be diagnosed with autism, vaccinated or not.
As a parent, my DD is fully vaccinated, including flu, according to the CDC schedule. I would not knowingly allow her to play with an unvaccinated child until she has all her vaccines around 2. I have a family member who doesn't vaccinate her child. DD hasn't met her. The multitude of physicians I work with do the same with their kids.
I also believe the government cannot explicitly say "you must vaccinate your child." But the government can keep these children out of school and daycare. That is where the focus needs to be shifted. You cannot argue with a parent who won't vaccinate their child. But you can make it incredibly difficult for them to participate in society. And that needs to happen, because herd immunity.
1 in 68 are sh!tty odds. And I get a parent needing a reason for their child’s diagnosis. It’s human nature. It’s a tough diagnosis and my heart breaks for those parents. My heart could very well break for myself because my DD is too young to be diagnosed and she has the same odds as every other child. ALL of our children do. None of us are exempt. I think a committee on autism is a great idea, but there is no place for vaccines in it.
