Restless 2 year old at night...

We converted DS's bed from crib to toddler bed in July, DS has rarely slept through the night. The last 9 months or so he has been waking every hour from midnight to 5 am, sometimes even twice a night. He gets up, goes to his door and cries curled up on the floor until I come and put him back in bed with his blanket pacifier and rub his head.It's too the point where i just start to fall asleep and he wakes again, so on and so forth all night long. I feel like a walking zombie. It's like it just cant get comfortable enough to stay asleep. Should we try a new mattress (it's his crib mattress in the toddler bed)? Pediatrician?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try a twin bed with rails. He might like the extra room.
