2 year old waking up at night

Pretty long story regarding toddler that just won't sleep through the night anymore.

My DD started waking up at night about two months ago. I've brought her to the doctor to make sure there was nothing wrong and he said everything was fine. He suggested that I give her Bennedryl at night for a week straight. I've given her Bennedryl when she woke up a few times because she was so hysterical that she wouldn't go back to sleep. I really didn't want to make it a habit though. Has anyone else done/heard of this??

I was just wondering if anyone else is/has gone through the same thing. And do you think she could still be teething?? She already got her molars in the back.
I don't take her out of the crib because that only makes it worse. She doesn't want to sleep with us.. she only plays. So I just let her cry in her crib until she falls asleep. Most times its 10-20 min. but once in a while it'll go on for hour.
Just wondering if this is a "normal" toddler thing.

Benadryl has the opposite effect on one of my DDs, could be the case for yours. So, I wouldn't give that anymore, especially since it is not working.

Secondly, my one DD (not quite yet 2) was waking up at night for 2 weeks straight not too long ago. It was a phase and she grew out of it. Just get her really tired so that she won't even be able to get up at night. That's what we did and it seemed to have worked. Good luck!

Benedryl makes my son hyperactive also, I wouldn't drug my child un-necessarily.

This could be a normal thing for your child, some children aren't so good at putting themselves back to sleep, maybe thats the problem. Why not wait it out for a few weeks, if she goes back to sleep after a few minutes, well, thats okay!

My 2 year old has the same problem. It isn't every night but it is several times during the week. She will wake up and be up for HOURS! I have taken to going in her room and sleeping on the floor on those nights. I have heard of using Benadryl to help them sleep as well.

my almost three year old has been like this as long as I can remember. She is still up 2-3 times a night 5-7 nights a week.

Sometimes she will go right back to sleep (although I have to go in to her) sometimes she is up for 2 hours...which are the worst nights!!!

I have tried it all - nothing really works. I have gotten really strict with her on nights that she wont go back to sleep. I tell her that if she doesnt lay in bed quietly I will have to shut her door - which she hates and usually leads to madness...but sometimes its what she needs. When I get more strict she tends to get a little better but its a constant struggle.

Recently she had fifths disease and a really itchy rash so I was giving her benadryl at night - and she still woke 2 times a night.
