Regifting poll

Me and my sister were talking about this last night, some people say it is moraly wrong and other think that if someone else would use it instead of it sitting in the attic than why not. I am curios to see what others thinkChat Icon

Re: Regifting poll

If there's no way for it to get back to the original gift-giver, and it's worth approximately what I would normally spend, then yes. I have and would.

I'm easy to buy for, so if someone gave me something I absolutely could not use, they didn't put any thought into it whatsoever. And I'd have no problem regifting.

Re: Regifting poll

I wouldn't get mad if someone gave me something they originally got from someone else. If it is something I liked and they didn't then what's the big deal. Especially if its because the person is low on funds.

Re: Regifting poll

I've never regifted, but I don't see an issue with it. My MIL is a teacher's aide and gets inundated with gifts from children in her classes (mainly frames and candle sets), so she puts it aside and when her husband needs a nice gift for his secretary, or someone's bday, they have something that could brighten someone's day.

I think it's OK. There's a website dedicated to all things regifting (stories, polls, etc)

It depends on the item.
I ALWAYS regift wine because I get a lot of wine that I don't like but that I know others would love.

I honestly don't do it. I don't think its horrible but my DH grandmother either gives me an old pocketbook of hers or a re gift. One year she gave my SIL something I gave her I was annoyed.. Chat Icon

Me too. Or I just give it away to someone (who I know will like it or use it) for no special reason.

We got all sorts of drink mixes and bottles of alcohol (vodka and tequila... I can't even look at them) for our housewarming. We will never use them so we gave them away.

Re: Regifting poll

I think it's rude and almost always obvious. We got a Waterford bowl from a very wealthy couple for our wedding that was obviously regifted...the minute we opened the box it just had a very old and musty smell...like it had been stored away for a very long time. It was such a slap in the face and I'll never forget it.

I have never regifted and never will.

Re: Regifting poll

We are so broke this x-mas that I decided to re-gift almost everything.

Especially for co-workers and our younger cousins.

For example, I got a bath and body works set from my secret santa last year...guess what my JR BM cousin is getting this year.

Seriously , its sad how poor we are right now but I still wanted to make x-mas special for my nearest and dearest - besides they will never know Chat Icon

Re: Regifting poll

I said I would never and this is the first year I did it. DH got a gift basket of gourmet coffees and I know we will never use it and his sister LOVES coffee so we are giving it to her and I added a box of christmas mugs to go with it.
