red light ticket- Can someone explain Driver responsibility fee?
i got one the other day. Mid left turn. got me. I got it, Im guilty.
$50 plus another $30 for that fee that I have no idea is for???
W T H?

I think the extra $30 is because it was a red light, not yellow

You get charged 'driver responsiblity' if you have a certain amount of points on your license, and the amount you pay is based on how many points you get. I had to pay because I had gotten 2 speeding tickets within 18 months.
They say it's for driver education, blah blah blah.

I got one in Nassau (Syosset-Woodbury) and it was $50 + $30 fee. It was crazy!! I did make a turn on red, but it was snowing like crazy, I was going at a good clip and I made the turn instead of braking and skidding. sure, I paid it, I was guilty. But $80!!!

Good point. Maybe they 'expanded the program' to include red light tickets now.

As tempting as it sounds, don't! DH got a red light ticket in Queens. $50. He told me to pay it when he got his next paycheck. There was no "pay by" date, so the check to pay it was mailed about 10-12 days after we got it in the mail. And 2 days later we get a $25 fee for "failure to pay in a timely manner"
We should have fought that since there was no date on the original, but DH said to just pay and lesson learned!
If you only send the $50, they'll impose a fee for the remainder not being paid!!
