Recycling bins

Do you put a garbage bag in your bins? I feel like our paper goes all over and some people are telling me they use garbage bags while others are saying they just put it in the bins for the recycling guys.

Recycling bins

Newspapers go in a bag, nothing else. The rest is just thrown into the bin.

Re: Recycling bins

No! It’s recycling. There is no need to use more plastic. The only bag I use is for my organic waste and that is a biodegradable paper bag.

Thanks so no bags seem to be the consensus.

Re: Recycling bins

We use a plastic shopping bag for the newspapers. If you don't use a bag do you have separate recycle containers? How do the sanitation workers separate?

Paper goes out on one day.
Metal/Glass/Plastic goes out another.
Actually it's every other week.
So Wed is our recycle day.
One week it's metal/glass/plastic
The next week it's all paper

Mine is different - all recycling on the same day, and it doesn't have to be separated. Glass, plastic, paper, can all go in one bin. I have 2 bins - one for papers and one for bottles etc, but I don't have to do it that way. It's called Single Stream Recycling. They collect every week in my town

We have single stream too. I didn't thing bags were even allowed. Everything goes straight into the bin or sometimes we'll use a cardboard box for overflow.

I wish. I have so much cardboard and it’s been weeks since the 4th of July was a skilled pick up day.

Re: Recycling bins

I put papers into a paper grocery bag and then put it in the can with the glass/plastics. I lost the lid for my recycling can so the papers can't go out until the night before. Otherwise if it rains, the paper gets all soggy.
