Recommend your RE for IUI. Also have a question ...
No clue where to start looking for an RE for IUI's. Our insurance we found out covers IUI but not IVF.
If you did an IUI how many times did you do them before either 1. Becoming pregnant from the IUI 2. Move onto IVF 3. What were you factors in having to do IUI(PCOS, male IF etc)

Re: Recommend your RE for IUI. Also have a question ...
1- I got pregnant on my 3rd iui. I had a loss in the 2nd trimester and got pregnant on my 3rd iui again but it was a chemical pregnancy (VERY early miscarriage, basically)
2- After 6 total IUIs, I moved on to IVF. I thought it would allow me to move on with my life faster.
3- I have many issues going on, but PCOS was my original problem and the reason we did IUIs to begin with. We have no male factor issues.
I recommend Dr.Braverman as an RE if you have out of network coverage. Good luck!!!

My first question to you would be where do you live? It kind of plays a factor in where to go
To answer your other questions, we are doing IUI for Male IF and we are on our 2nd iui and if it doesn't work, we may or may not go to a 3rd iui before beginning IVF. The number of iuis done is really dependent on your specific case.

thanks for your reply! Should of mentioned where I live. I'm in eastern Suffolk but will travel if an RE is highly recommended.

i did 4 IUI's with injectable drugs and didn't get pregnant from any of them. our next step will be IVF. two major factors play a role with me.....multiple losses and i only have one tube. we knew doing IUI's that it didn't increase our chances by too much but it was worth a try since my insurance covers them fully (well, except the injectables).
i also highly recommend Dr. Braverman if you have out of network coverage. he's an amazing man. good luck

of course we would not make fun of you! i hardly knew anything about my insurance coverage until i started IF treatments. just call your insurance company and ask them about your coverage for IUI's and IVF. i would ask them your in network coverage and out of network coverage so you'll know all of your options.

We did 4 IUI's (2 medicated) before moving on to IVF. We had MFI. We got pregnant with after our first attempt at IVF. I HIGHLY recommend LI IVF. They have offices in Stonybrook, Melville and Lake Success. In the practice I would try and see Dr Brenner or Dr Kennigsberg. Extrememly organized office, will give you a wealth of information and allow you to make an educated decision. Their success rates are higher than the national average yet I found them to be extremely ethical in their protocol -this was a major factor for me. GL!

Re: Recommend your RE for IUI. Also have a question ...
I went to RSNY (Mineola). I was diagnosed with PCOS. I did 6 medicated IUIs and got pregnant on the 6th. Our next step was IVF if the 6th was unsuccessful.

I went to RSOFNY ( west islip and stony brook offices ).
We did 2 unmedicated iui's and were unsuccessful. Then we took about 5 months off and did a 3rd IUI but this time with clomid and got pregnant!
We have unexplained infertility.

Re: Recommend your RE for IUI. Also have a question ...
I went to RSNY for 2 IUI's which failed...now I am going to NSUH and have had 3 IUI's so far which had failed...we are consulting with my RE since IVF will be our next step if IUI #6 fails...I have PCOS which is our only issue.
I would def consult with a couple of RE's before picking the one that you feel the most comfortable with...how the practice is run, the monitoring hrs, location and protocol are all factors
Good luck!!!

RS of NY Dr. Halfen Dr. Cain Dr. San Roman
I did 3 clomid cycles. First two cycles we tried on our own. On my third clomid cycle I did IUI and got pregnant with twins! I had four eggs and obviously 2 fertilized and implanted.
I had thyroid issues and ovulation issues and DH had possible male IF
As a side note, my friend got pg on her third IUI with Dr. San Roman.
ETA: Dr. Halfen hugged DH and I when we "graduated" from their office to our OBGYN...So sweet!!!!!!!

Re: Recommend your RE for IUI. Also have a question ...
I am so glad you're looking to an RE before trying at the OB's office. When you first consult with any RE, they will recommend testing for both you and your DH. Then, based on the results, they will tell you what your next logical step should be, and what the chances of conceiving through IUI would be for you and your specific case. I think that it is very important to have an office near your home because you will be there a lot, especially early in the mornings. Your DH will have to bring in sperm samples too, especially if you have to have IUI. I agree 100% with the advice of others to try 2 or 3 until you feel comfortable. You should especially look into RE offices where you're seen by a doctor each time, not just a technician. Also, they have an in house representative for billing and insurance who will explain everything to you. I had a million questions too, and found them helpful!
Best of luck, and remember no Question is too dumb!! EVER!

My factoRs were pcos/low progesterone, produce a sperm antibody. We also have a small MF with morphology. I used RSofNy in stony brook as Dr. Lydic for both pregnancies. He is the head of endocrinology at StOny Brook and came highly recommend to me by two different obs.

Rs of NY Dr. SanRoman or Dr. Saketos are my FAVORITES. 516-739-2100 is the Mineola office but they have an office in Stonybrook (631) 246-9328 and West Islip I have been to their office for 4+ years. We have "unexplained infertility" Our journey was a total of 9 clomid IUI's and currently on round #3 of IVF
6 Clomid IUI's prior to starting IVF First IVF worked--> my son Thomas 3 Clomid IUI's Now we are on our 3rd round of IVF
Our insurance covered 6 IUI's and we had to do at least 4 before moving to IVF (covered) we decided to to less invasive until we couldnt take it anymore.
I know several close friends who used this office who are extremely happy with them. All have different issues: genetic, PCOS, age, detached tubes, etc.
Good Luck!!! I would suggest if you are not in a rush to make a consult appointment with a few different offices. Everyone on the board seems to love their RE's so its comes down to a personal preference.
PS. IUI at our office (although we were covered for the first 6) was $250-300 for the sperm wash and IUI procedure. Clomid was day 3-7 100mg. and we were making about 6 follies on average.
Hope this helps... Ill pray for you!!!

Dr. Saketos from RSofNY - Mineola Office
1. Becoming pregnant from the IUI * I got pregnant twice after my first IUI attempts - both Gonal-F injection cycles. * First IUI in March 2010 - resulted in my DS who is 17mo * Second IUI in March 2012 - had a MC at 9w
2. Move onto IVF * Thankfully haven't needed to move on to IVF yet.
3. What were you factors in having to do IUI(PCOS, male IF etc) * PCOS - Absent Periods, I do not ovulate on my own.
Good Luck!

Re: Recommend your RE for IUI. Also have a question ...
I went to RSofNY (Stony Brook office) Did a few clomid cycles with timed intercourse and then moved to clomid/IUI. Got pregnant first IUI - miscarried. Got pregnant second IUI - had twins (now 3.5) When we wanted another baby went straight to clomid/IUI again and got pregnant the first cycle. (singleton now 14 months). I was VERY, very lucky. Diagnosed with PCOS. Tried for 18 months on our own with no success.
