I'm assuming this isn't normal?....

I just got home from work, and as I was driving, I started to feel like there was a black veil covering my right eye. Now I have almost like a blind spot in the top of my right eye. It's freaking me out, but I can still see out of it, I just feel like I have tunnel vision in it. Anyone else have this? I don't think it's a migraine because usually I feel them coming on and I've never had vision loss from one.

There is such a thing as an ocular migraine. I had one once, the blindspot passed shortly. Follow up with your doctor just to rule out other things. Feel better. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm assuming this isn't normal?....

This does not sound like an ocular migraine to me. You should go to the ER.

They usually have a zig-zag appearance that progresses outwards and eventually end within 1/2 hour to an hour. Some people have a visual defect before a migraine but you didn't say you had a headache.

If it has not resolved yet, not to scare you, but I think you should go to the ER right now (I know that Stony Brook has ophthalmologists on call). If your symptoms resolved within an hour from the onset of symptoms, call an ophthalmologist first thing in the morning and get an appointment.

ETA: Call your Ob before you head over to the ER.

I got that in my third trimester - my doctor had me go to L&D right away to make sure my blood pressure was ok. It WAS, but it turned out I was also having mild contractions. Call your doctor! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it's related to pre-eclampsia and you should definitely get it checked out.

Re: I'm assuming this isn't normal?....

Well, I layed down a bit and it seems to have gone away. I am going to call my doctor in a little bit. I just want to wait until JT gets home in a little while incase I need to make a trip to L&D. Chat Icon I've been really upset all day, too, so I am sure my blood pressure is high. I can check that when JT gets home because he's actually at the doctor right now and had to bring his blood pressure monitor with him to be calibrated or something like that. So as soon as he gets home, I can check mine and at least be able to tell the dr. that. Thanks everyone for responding. I'll let you know what happens.

Re: I'm assuming this isn't normal?....

Rach, I had the SAME EXACT THING once when I was PG with Scotty, and I'd never heard of anyone else having it. I remember driving and not being able to see all the numbers on the license plates in front of me. It is really scary.
Did you call your Dr? You definately should. From the sound of things with you lately, you really should be sure to monitor your BP closely.
Hope you feel better and please keep us postedChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm assuming this isn't normal?....

I had that twice about a month or so ago. Same thing, tunnel vision, blind spots. The second time it happened I was actually on my way to an OB appt and I was scared for my life driving. I was on the highway when it came on. My OB felt it was a migraine, which I never had before those 2x. He said if I continued to get it, he'd check me for ??? I cannot for the life of me remember what it was that he mentioned but it was related to the pregnancy. But I never got it after that and it was actually gone by the time I left his office. But it was really quite frightening so I can empathize with you. Definitely call your OB to be safe.

ETA: I just read the other replies and I guess he must have been talking about preeclampsia. My BP has always been very good so maybe that's why he didnt seem overly worried. Hope all is well with you
