Random question ... If you have a girl.........

If you have a girl, would you take her to get her ears pierced as a baby, or wait till she gets older and can make her own decision?

Personally, I will wait. I don't think I'd be able to stand seeing my baby cry from something that I CHOSE to do to her! Also, I have fond memories of my mom taking me to get my ears pierced when I was 10. I would want my DD to decide to do this on her OWN terms and have the same memory I have with my mom!

I'll have them done when she's a baby by the peditrician. IMO, it's much easier to take care of them that way. And she'll never remember the pain or have to be nervous before it's done.

I did my DD's @ 4months.. the Dr. did it.. She cried but only for a minute... then it was fine & she loves them now... DH just bought her white gold hoops w/ diamonds for Xmas.. they are soo cute!! She shows them off

I would definitely have the doctor pierce her ears as a baby!

I would take her when she was a baby. Mine were pierced as a baby and I'm thankful I can't remember it! I also think babies wouldn't fidget around with them so they would be quicker to heal.

I didn't have my DD's ears pierced. I never wanted to do it BUT..........once I heard what happened to my BFF's DD I was glad I made the choice not to do it. When her DD was just a few months old she actually swallowed the post to her earring.......the pointy, metal post!! She had so many sonos and doctor visits and even surgery to try and get it out because it was embedded in her intestinal wall. Needless to say, she is now 2 1/2 years old and the post is still in there, stuck in her intestinal wall, buried in scar tissue.

So for me.........I don't see the need to have it done. It's one other thing to take care of and one other thing to worry about.

I will wait. I don't know anyone who has done it as a baby, so I don't have experience with it, but I remember it as a coming of age outing with my mother, at like 8. My dad said it was barbaric It's really not that bad now too because they can pierce both ears at the same time.

ETA: With all the other care babies require, these seems one more thing to worry about. I was in charge of cleaning my ears, or I couldn't get them done.

I too will have the baby's ear pierced by the pediatrician. I was a baby when I had mine. And my two nieces had it done at 4 months I think. They looked so girly girl with their lil stud earrings. so cute

I took my DD when she was 6 months. As soon as they did it and she started to cry, I fed her and she ate and fell asleep, and that was the end of it. I will do it again at 6 months if I have another girl.

I would have the doctor do it. My mom didnt have mine done until I was in 5th grade and it was a horrific experience for me and I picked at them and it got them infected like 3 times. My mom would say she wished she did it when i was younger....So i say it is ok to do and I will prob do it.

I was six when I had it done--my parents took me to do it for Valentine's Day (I begged!). I remember the experience so clearly--I was on the verge of chickening out and my dad (who passed away later that year) had a little pep talk with me. After it was done I couldn't wait to go to school and show off my new earrings.
I'll probably wait a little while with my daughter too--until she's old enough to know if she wants it or not.

I am going to wait until she asks for it. I got them done when I was 6 and it was a great memory more just because my aunt got it done for me because my mom didn't want me to get them!

A remember crying for a minute and then being so happy and couldn't wait to show them off!

My mom had mine done when I was 3 months old. I think that I will get my
daughter's done when she in still an infant, whenever the doctor says it's okay to get it done. I'd rather do it when she is too young to remember the pain.

We waited. I personally am not a fan of babies with earrings. JMHO. DD will get hers done if she wants around age 5 (I was 4).

I will wait until she is old enough to make the choice that she wants it and she can take care of it herself. I don't feel a need to have it done as an infant. I had my ears pierced multiple times as a kid and it doesn't hurt THAT bad.

I would definitely wait till my daughter asks me at a certain age to have them pierced....I would not like to do what my Mom did and have mine pierced at age 2! I screamed so loud, I had the mall police running into the place thinking I was being murdered!!
