ALWAYS in the front.
To be honest, I don't even know about the back, I haven't been in the back seat of a car for ages. But I do know that it is legal after 16 not to wear one in the backseat.

I never wear one in the back. My friend got in my backseat, put on his seatbelt and I must admit I was offended and asked him WTH he was doing.
I know, the whole projectile thing.. but still.

It really upsets me that so many people don't buckle up in the backseat. You hear so many stories about car accidents where the only fatality or major injury was the person in the back seat who was not buckled in. It's such a simple precaution to take. Please think about it next time you get in the back seat.

I agree. When I met DH he almost never wore his seatbelt, front seat or back, and I really tore him a new one. Now he always wears it. I know from personal experience how important it is to wear a seatbelt. When I was 18 I was sideblinded by someone going about 65mph. I didn't even see it coming. He hit me on the driver's side, my car flipped 3 times and ended upside down on the other end of the block. This was at 3am, and the accident woke up the entire block. You'd think I would have had serious injuries, but I was wearing my seatbelt. The only injury I had was a huge bruise across my chest and collarbone from the seatbelt holding me upside down for about 20 minutes until the EMT came and got me out of the car. The next day an accident investigator came to inspect the car. He came back and told me that based on the accident and the way my car was literally CRUSHED from all angles, I would have died if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and if I had had any backseat passengers, they would have died as well. It only takes ONE BREIF UNEXPECTED MOMENT and that's it. So, please, it saves lives, please please please wear your seatbelt no matter where you are sitting.

I have to wear a seatbelt no matter where I sit (except in cabs). I don't feel "tucked in" unless I do. I can't even pull out of the driveway without it on. I am, what they call, a loser

Well said! My DH is a cop and he has told me many horror stories about people who weren't wearing their seat belts in the back seat and got into accidents. It's not pretty.
I don't get why you would think the back seat is any safer than the front without a seat belt?
