Random Monday Poll

So when I was growing up and about to get my driver's license, my dad told me that I wasn't allowed to drive his cars until I learned how to change a tire. I have had to change my own flat tires twice in my life since then and I have to tell you that it makes me feel really self-sufficient.

I know that now that I have a DD (and a DS for that matter) I want to make sure we teach them how to do this as well... when the time comes!

So I was wondering how many LIFers know how to change a flat on their car? Just curious! Chat Icon

Re: Random Monday Poll

no, but I can probably figure it out if I couldn't get a hold of someone who knew how to do it and could be there pronto.

Re: Random Monday Poll

Yes, I know how. Luckily, being that this is DH"s line of work, he even has the appropriate power tools in the car to make it easier if either of us had to do it Chat Icon

Yes I can. My dad was just like yours. He also taught me how to change the oil, drive stick and used to make me reverse the boat trailer into the driveway.

Yes.

And just luck that I've never been on the road when I had one.... So I never had to change one. DH takes care of it all now for me.

Ditto.

While I generally know "how" to do it -- I've never actually done it. I'd likely call DH or the roadside assistance we pay for with our insurance.

Re: Random Monday Poll

My dad felt the same way about me learning to change a tire as yours. The funny thing is my father has never driven a day in his life.

I have changed numerous tires not just on my own cars but for friends and
family. Haven't done it in ages though because DH spoils me.

Re: Random Monday Poll

We have these cool cards (in our wallets) that have a number to call incase that happens. I think I would be really good at dialing the number and having them come out to change the tire.

I'd also like to add that I think I would EXCEL at pulling over to the side of the road safely and THEN pulling out my cell to call. THAT is my specialty.

I knew how to & have done it myself but would not attempt it now. I've long forgotten & I think getting the lug nuts off would be pretty challenging these days.

Re: Random Monday Poll

I could do it on my first car - a tiny VW Golf.

I'm not 100% confident I could do it on my SUV. Chat Icon

Yes, and one of the first things I did when I got my new truck years ago was to look at the jack and make sure I knew how to use it.

My dad was the same way. We had to change a flat, check and add oil & fluids before we were allowed to drive by ourselves on the road.
