Quick poll about DC when you and DH go out...

My inlaws insist that every time DH and I want to go out for the night that we drop the kids to their home, which ends up with the kids having to spend the night at their home because if we are out late, it doesn't make sense to wake the kids up (they go to ebd at 7)...

Just curious if I'm being crazy just asking them to come to my house so the kids can sleep in their own bed.

My parents come to our house. I see no reason to disrupt my DDs routine for one night out. We don't generally stay out late at all but they come here and get her to bed for us. It would be a headache for us at this age (she's 4) to bring her there for the night, it would be too disruptive to her routine. When she's older I won't care but now it's just easier all around if they come to us........and they don't mind.

My in-laws prefer to come here to watch them. I wish they would keep them overnight once in a while so we didn't feel like teenagers with a curfew.

If its just a random night out, like dinner/movie type thing, then our parents always watch the kids at my home so they can sleep in their own beds.
But if it's a bigger event, planned way in advance then they usually will sleep at my MIL. She takes them to dinner and TRU for a small toy and they camp out in the living room. They enjoy staying there, usually once a month.

I'm at the point where I have two paid babysitters so that I don't have to deal with grandparent babysitting drama...and it's worth every penny!!

When I do use grandparents, one set comes here, the other we strictly go there. If your inlaws "insist" upon you bringing the kids there, then that's what you need to do. They're doing you a favor. And p.s. I would give my right arm to have my kids sleep out of this house more than one night a year.

my parents and my inlaws prefer it to be here bec their beds/cribs and all their toys and gear are here!

For me, anyone who watches DD must come to our house. Imo, it's just easier. She is in her envoirnment with her toys, bed and her routine will be the same. I dont want to have to pack all her stuff to drag it to someone's house. Also, my parents are 20 minutes away in suffolk and my in laws are in brooklyn (you cant put a time on that, lol). Neither of their homes are really convienent. If they are not ok with that I get someone else to watch her.

I am in the process of finding a babysitter so I don't need to deal with the drama...lol

My Dd is only 8 months old and I feel bad disrupting her routine and having her sleep the whole night away from me just so DH and I can go to dinner...

My 4 year old is no issue, her spending the night out isn't a big deal , I guess I just have a problem with the baby being disrupted..

We have done both. Depends on which works out better for both parties.

If DS goes to the ILs we pick him up late and he goes right back to sleep when we get home. Not a big deal IMO.

It depends on where we're going.

Tiny tot is such a great sleeping schedule that I would like her to be home but at the same time they're doing us a favor so why not let them be comfy at home.

They come to us. It's so much easier with all her stuff here.
And they can put her to bed in her own crib and we don't have to worry about waking her when we get back, loading her in the car, driving home and having to start all over again with going to bed.

I couldn't vote because we do both. Whichever my parents prefer (DH's parents aren't in the picture).

My MIL watches DD 2 days per week at her house. It's the same if she and FIL babysit at night. She does the same with my SIL's kids too. My MIL is a homebody and just wouldn't be comfortable at anyone else's house. It's annoying, but we bring DD over there, and then bring her home whatever time we get back, even though she's already asleep. MIL has never offered to keep her overnight. My mom will be watching DD in a few weeks overnight, and we will be bringing DD to her house on S.I. I wish MIL would babysit for DD at our house though.

If my mom watches DS, we bring him to her and she keeps him overnight. She lives in the city and does not have a car so if she watched him at our house, it would mean her and my little brother would have to sleep at our small apartment. It just makes it easier on everyone for us to bring him down to her. With that being said, it kind of stinks because due to the fact that DS has been having problems sleeping, we haven't had a night out in several months.

If he is not watched at our house, he stays the night with my in-laws. A night out for DH and I almost always consists of alcohol and we refused to have even one drink and pick him up.

Now that DS are 2 and 3 we usually take them there but she used to come to me before. If they had to be in bed before we'd be back she'd be here

Both.

She's pretty good on the transfer though, so she'll go to sleep at their house, then we put her in her crib when we get home.

For the most part babysitters will come to us.

We usually bring DS to my parents. If we asked her to come here she would - but not if we're going to be out past 10ish.

I would do whatever is easier for the person watching them. If they prefer to be at their own home, I will do that, because they are doing me a favor. If the person thinks it easier for them to stay at my home, we do that.

ETA: Didn't see this was just for grandparents. We have never had their grandparent babysit. Answered for uncles and aunts

My parents are really the only ones who will watch DS if we go out at night. They don't live far and actually prefer coming here. It's much easier on them to stick to his routine bc they can just hang out and watch TV on the couch while he sleeps. If he's there, it would be more of a headache to get him to sleep in a different place. Most of the the time, I put DS to sleep before we even leave (He's in bed by 730), so they don't have to do a thing... easiest babysitting ever!

We do both. My parents watch the kids at their house during the week so it is not disruptive for them to sleep there. My parents always offer to have them sleep over to give us a morning off. I try to accommodate my parents and what is easier for them because they help us out so much.
