Quick - please help - baptism invite quandry
So DH and I decided that we would only invite immediate family to DS's baptism on the 19th (up to 1st cousins). There will be roughly 45 -50 people attending.
My family used to live in the same apartment with second cousins and are pretty close to 2 of them but didn't want to end up having to invite them bc then we knew we would have to invite all the other 2nd cousins. This would have brought the invite list up to 100-110 people.
It turns out that 2nd cousin that we are very close to but not invited is having a BBQ the day of DS's christening and emailed 1st & 2nd cousins. My 1st cousin who knew but forgot they where not invited says "oh, isn't that the same day as the baptism party?" and 2nd cousin says "oh, really, is it?".
This is what I was thinking of responding. Please let me know if this is okay, or if I need to now invite all of them.
"Yeah, it is actually. We decided to do it last minute because DH's sister from Ohio and the kids are visiting that weekend. We didn't have time to put together a big party so we only invited a few people. You guys are more than welcome to come though."
Is this okay? I'm pulling my hair out trying to think of a good response and they know I'm on email right now so I can't think it over.
I need to respond soon!!

If you word it you can come if you want.. you better be prepared for those who choose too. If you rather they didnt.. then i would try and word a bit different.

I really wouldn't mind if they came and actually would love if they did. I just didn't want it to become a big production where i had to invite Dh and my extended family.
Do you think others not invited would be offended if they found out?

I would just leave it at that you only invited immediate family. No need to explain further.
