Questions about Induction
Hi I have a few questions about being induced.
1. Does your doctor show up right away and give you the drugs and monitor dilation? (I am assuming no!)
2. Who checks dilation? The nurses? Are the nurses giving you internals?
3. Do you have to lay on your left side when waiting for the pitocin to work? Someone told me this and I hope it isnt always the case because I am SO uncomfortable when lying down.
4. Can you have visitors besides DH when waiting for things to start happening?
Thank you!

My doctor came about an hour after I was there and rechecked me (the nurse already had)

The nurses checked me most of the day, the doc would come in sporacdically. He would check for dilation and he broke my water.
3. Do you have to lay on your left side when waiting for the pitocin to work? Someone told me this and I hope it isnt always the case because I am SO uncomfortable when lying down.
No. I was on my back most of the day, but could roll onto my sides as well.
4. Can you have visitors besides DH when waiting for things to start happening?
Yes. My parents, sister and in-laws all came to see me.

Re: Questions about Induction
I will answer based upon how my induction went-
1. Does your doctor show up right away and give you the drugs and monitor dilation? (I am assuming no!) You check into the hospital and they take all your info and get some vitals, start an IV, then the hospital labor doctor starts the medicine. I hade cervadil which is inserted and takes 12 hours. After the 12 hours I was checked by the dr for progress. I had none, so then I was given ctyotek which is a 4 hour drug, and was checked again at the end of the 4 hours for progress.
2. Who checks dilation? The nurses? Are the nurses giving you internals? The doctors do the internals.
3. Do you have to lay on your left side when waiting for the pitocin to work? Someone told me this and I hope it isnt always the case because I am SO uncomfortable when lying down. I didn't have pitocin, but througout the induction the nurses kept having me lie on my left. You will have a fetal monitor thingy around your belly and they had me lie on my left because when I went the other way, they couldn't monitor the baby as well.
4. Can you have visitors besides DH when waiting for things to start happening? At LIJ, it was just me and DH. Have him wear something comfy and bring snacks. It is a long process.
HTH. Good luck!
