Question on stretching
My OB stretched me today and said that ought to get things moving along and that I may have some light spotting and/or mucus which I did have a little shortly after my visit but just a tiny bit of both spotting and mucus (sorry TMI )
That doesn't mean I lost part of my mucus plug, right? That's just due to the internal (stretching that she did) is what I'm guessing .

Re: Question on stretching
So confused and a little grossed out, too. Is this a common practice? I don't think I'd want to be "stretched" at any point in this pregnancy!

It was like any other internal but she did something with her fingers, sorry TMI where I just felt a great deal of pressure and she was waaaay up there it definitely did hurt. Being my cervix is soft she was able to stretch it out about to help me dilate much quicker.
From what I understand you can only stretch a cervix that isn't closed, it has to be soft and thinning.

It's common if your past your due date and not making any progress as far as dilating. It's basically an internal but the doctor is able to stretch your cervix a bit in order to speed things along.

Re: Question on stretching
Egads... This is a new one for me too. Its currently tied with "membrane stripping" for 'Least Appealing 3rd Trimester Procedure that I Did Not Know About Which is Probably A Good Thing". Well I hope after all that it was effective and baby gets here soooooon!!!!

Re: Question on stretching
I think they ruptured your membranes. They did that to me and said it would be about 72 hours until labor started. The contractions started right after that and within 5 hours they were full contractions. Had him 26 hours after the OB visit. Good luck!

No, when they repture your membranes that means they broke your water it's just a medical term that they use for it. My doctor doesn't know when I will go in labor but hopes by her stretching my cervix it will help speed up the dilation process.

Stripping your membranes doesn't mean they broke your water. I had this done with DS. I think what your doctor did is strip your membranes.

Is rupture and stripping the same thing? She used the term "stretching", now I wonder exactly what she did
Did it work for you? How are you feeling by the way and how is your little doing?
