Question for those who delayed/planned on splitting the MMR vaccine
I planned on splitting the vaccine. Of course now they are no longer making the split vaccine.
What are you doing now they are no longer splitting the vaccine? Are you waiting to see if they start making it again or are you just going to give the combined vaccine?
I know DS needs to get vaccinated very soon 1) b/c the new baby is due in September and 2) he is starting 2 day nursery school in September. If I wait until September he will be 2 1/2. I really wanted to wait until 3 but with measles outbreaks popping up here and there I think he needs to get it done sooner rather than later. But of course I am still nervous about it even after all these new reports.
I am just afraid I will regret my decision.

For all the reasons you mentioned, I bit the bullet and gave it at the 2 yr well visit. Im kinda glad I did as its over and done with.

I had planned to split/delay it for my dd too, but seeing that they are no longer splitting the vaccine my plan changed. DD will get the vaccine around the age your son is. It will be right after the "risk"time that is the concern for MMR and before she starts pre-k. If I did not have some developmental issues with DS I would not have considered the delay. Now, I can not feel confident giving it to DD at the same age DS had it.

I always planned on delaying it and have done so. DD is 2 and I will delay it until she enters school, either when she's 3 or 4. I'm perfectly comfortable with my decision to do so.

i had always planned on splitting it but probably not delaying it. that idea went out the window
i wound up biting the bullet and giving it this past monday at DS's 12 month checkup due to the measles outbreak in brooklyn. not sure if you saw my post or not, but i was very emotional about it.
i still wish i could have split it--i hate that that's not an option anymore--it just isn't right

i delayed the MMR until i had a DX for DS.. once it was given i had him get the shot.. that was at 18 months old...
i didnt want him to get the shot and then be DX, bc iw ould always have in the back of my mind did the mmr cause this...

Rylan was supposed to get it at his 15 month apointment but I decided to delay it. One of the reasons being he hasn't started talking yet.
You mentioned one of the reasons he needs it is because of #2 on the way. Do they recommend that?

Not that they recommend it but being DS will be going to a nursery program 2 days a week he will be exposed to alot more than he has been being I have been home with him. I do take him to the Little Gym and Mommy and Me but my ped. recomended I do it when he starts his nursery program. I dont want him to bring something home and expose a newborn.
I also have heard conflicting advice on whether to vaccinate a child with the MMR vaccine while I am pregnant. From the blood tests the dr's did at the beginning of my pregnancy, I am supposably immune to all 3.

The other thing that confuses me is that most kids dont get the MMR until 15 mo. but kids can be exposed to it before than 
People put their infants and toddlers in mommy and me programs, gymboree, etc. and their kids can be exposed to the measles or anything else from another child who has an older sibling at home in those programs.

My plan was to delay it until he needed it to go to school (he will start preschool at 3) so - he will have to get it sometime b/f he is 3 - that was my plan and as of now I am sticking with it. I was considering splitting it but was torn b/c I was worried about him having three separate serious reactions. Still not sure - I guess I will see what the situation is a year from now when I have to give it to him.

I plan on splitting and delaying. Merck has plans to re-start manufacturing the monovalent vaccines, and my ped still has the monovalent rubella, but not measles or mumps.
I call Merck on a regular basis to keep the fire burning under them so they re-start manufacture quicker than they currently plan on doing.

He just started talking - so some other people can understand him.

DD had her 1 year visit on Friday but i canceled it because im still undecided on what to do about the MMR. i made a new appointment for monday so i have to decide by then I really think i want to delay it but im worried about what the dr. is going to say. i dont want to feel pressured into it.

Just curious, how are you able to have your child in a daycare setting without the MMR? Is this a center or a private provider? When DD was in daycare they were very strict about being up to date on vaccines without a religious exemption.

He only administered the monovalent vaccines and said it is a huge problem that they just stopped b/c not all of the patients can complete the series now and Merck's response, "just give them a dose of the combo vaccine"  Umm...yeh, but then they will be getting a double dose of something else they dont need

This is what just happened to me. DD had gotten the measles and rubella , and then at DD's 2 year appt the doc told me they aren't making the mumps single dose anymore. So I was "forced" to give DD the MMR (she is starting school in the Fall). Ugh, I think I will be internally tortured by this situation for the rest of my life.

I wound up at doing it at the 2 y/o well visit and opted to make that the only shot at that visit. I went back a month later for the polio shot that she was supposed to have. It just mad me feel better.

I have DS's 2 yr appt today and he will prob be getting it I also wanted to split it but of course they dont make all three now so its not an option. I was going to delay it another year or so, but we are going on vacation this summer and felt it would be better if he gets it before we go. Also I am off all summer so at least if he has a reaction I will be around and not have to take off work or also have another child to tend to at the moment (I am pregnant). I am not 100% sure I am doing the right thing though, it's such a hard decision

OK...totally makes sense!!
This is why we did it too. Noah started a pre school prograqm recently and with babies on the way the risk was too high.
The outbreaks have been coming too close together lately and I just couldnt postpone it rationally any longer ( though I had wanted to ) but everytime we go to a public playplace I would get nervous. It was hard, the worst of two evils is what I had to decide.
Our Ped allows or feels it is ok to delay when the child is delayed( Noahs speech issue)....but we do know his issue is now simply a delay and nothing more and after that, I found no researched evidence of reason for not giving it ( except for reactions) ....and while it tore me apart to have to do it, I'm glad it is done.
And my Ped and OB and High Risk OB all said it was fine to give when I was PG.

Did your ped or OB express any risk in giving DS the MMR vaccine after you have the babies when they are a month or two old?
DS just had his last DTaP vaccine and I like to wait a couple of months between vaccines so by the time I am ready to give him the MMR the baby will already be born. I know it is a "live" virus vaccine so wondering if it is dangerous with a newborn in the home. But I guess not really b/c the baby has my immune system.
