Question for people who rent...
Do you pay your rent on time? Is there a late fee if you do not?
Thanks!

Re: Question for people who rent...
I don't rent anymore, but when i did, it was always either on the 1st or within a day.
Most places i rented gave you a 3-5 day grace period and then you were charged a daily fee for every day you were late after that.

Re: Question for people who rent...
We are the worst with paying rent on time. Luckily for DH & I, my parents are our landlord.

Re: Question for people who rent...
I've been living in my apartment for almost a year and a half and I ALWAYS pay on the 1st of the month. There was maybe once or twice that I was forced to wait til the 2nd or 3rd because my landlord and his family went away so I paid them when they returned.

Re: Question for people who rent...
when we were in private house, it was in before the 1st - usually the 30th or 31st. rent was delivered in person.
in a complex (rent needs to be mailed to a payment center), i always mail the check the thursday of the week of the 1st. ex: this month, the 1st was Wed, i mailed it on thurs the 2nd. it'll hit my bank today. It's not "late" until after the 10th.

Re: Question for people who rent...
I used to live in a co-op and I had until the 5th to pay... otherwise it was a 25.00 fee. (doubled for every 5 days you were late)
Now I live in a 3 story walk up with my landlord on the first floor. I just paid him yesterday. No fee. But I don't plan on being a day late again.

Re: Question for people who rent...
No fee but I chose mostly on time because I'mt not paying rent this month until some work is done - I've been inconvenienced for 4 months and have had it

Don't rent anymore either but when we did, we either paid on the actual day or before. NEVER after.

I don't now but when I did, I was always on time. I had to mail the check from Long Beach to Roslyn and always sent it at least four days early.

We are pretty friendly with our landlord. She told me she DOESNT need it exactly ont he first. I pay her within a few days-someitmes the first, but sometimes the 3rd. I pay her cash.

Re: Question for people who rent...
We get a ten days to send it in without penalty. Only once was it later than that because I made the check to cash and they don't accept them Super annoying.

If we pay after the 5th there is a $50 late fee. We have been here for a year and I have never received a late fee.

Re: Question for people who rent...
We don't rent, but we do have renters. Unfortunately, and fortunately, they are friends so we have dealt with some payment issues through the years (been here almost 4 years.)

Re: Question for people who rent...
Always on time -- knock one wood!
Just one time we had to pay a few days late, and that was because of an issue with DH's paycheck not being deposited in the right account and it was delayed.
I was so embarrassed because I didn't want our landlord to think we were deadbeats or something.

I wouldn't worry about it, everyone is late sometimes.
Deadbeat= having your 14 year old son call us to say you don't have the rent month after month, lying about how your "boss" owes you thousands of dollars, oh and making the 14 year old get a job (god only knows where) to help pay the rent when you and your wife don't work. It's a very sad situation actually.
So don't be embarrassed!

Does my FIL rent from you or something?

That is downright despicable!

Re: Question for people who rent...
We rent a house, and our last rental was a house too. We pay when they come to pick it up. We always have it on hand the day it is due, its a matter of the landlord coming for it. At our old house, the rent was due the 1st and the girl was never around, so we would wait til she came to our house to get it usually by the 7th she would come around looking for it. We had no late fee there. Our new place the guy is supposed to come on the 15th each month. I think it says something about a late fee after 5 days late in our lease, but we always have it when it is due.

Re: Question for people who rent...
I have to be honest most of the time I'm a few days late (but I've been living where DH and I are at for over 20 years so I have a nice friendship with the people in the management office).
I've never been charged a late fee even though they can do that legally to me, but when we move in October to a new apartment, I'm going to make it a point to pay exactly on time since I'm not going to have that same courtesy extended to me.
The only reason why we're late btw, is because of the pay cycle we're both on (every two weeks). So it kind of sucks having part of the rent and not wanting to deplete your savings over the other half.
