Question about when to start TTC

knowing that it can take quite a long time to actually become prego...did anyone on here decide to start TTC before they were actually ideally ready to be pregnant?

for example...in my case...Ideally I would like to give birth in November of 09...no sooner though.

I know that if i start TTC in Feb and became preggo right away i would be due in Nov 09....now of course this is in a perfect world and from reading posts on here i can see that it can take months or even years to become pregnant!

That makes me nervous, b/c i am planning on staying at my current job only till i have a child, and i dont think I can hold out there much longer. The soonest I can leave is Nov. 09....so does it make sense to start trying before Feb....knowing that it make take a while to Conceive? or should i just wait till Feb, b/c ideally....that's when i will really be ready. However if it takes a long time, then I may be stuck in my job for longer then I hoped for. (reason being, I dont want to start looking for a new job till after I've had my first child...i dont want to accept a new position and then all of a sudden get pregnant, i'd prefer to start out at a new place fresh....etc.)

Is my thinking ridiculous here?? Is it silly for me to take these things into consideration?

Re: Question about when to start TTC

Honestly - you just never know how long it can take to get pregnant.

I wouldn't start TTC before you are ready. You never know - you could get pregnant in your first month. I've seen it happen MANY times.

You have to be prepared for it to months or even a year - or for it to take no time at all.

I think you need to weigh the pros and cons of each situation.

This just happens to be one of those things that you cannot predict. And often the more we try to plan and time it out perfectly, the more out of our grasp it seems to become.

Best of luck with your decision Chat Icon

Re: Question about when to start TTC

You need to be prepared that once you start TTC, it could happen right away or it could take at least 6-12 months. There's no way to know. I wouldn't TTC before you're ready though.

We initially wanted to start TTC after we bought a house. When that didn't happen right away, I didn't want to put off TTC since it could take a while. I ended up getting pregnant the first month we tried. Although it wasn't the ideal situation we had planned, we were still ready to TTC and have a child. The house part was just something we wanted to have first.

Re: Question about when to start TTC

i have to agree with both of the previous posters.

you need to be prepared for it to go either way....

you could be one of the LUCKY LUCKY women out there who's husband sneezes on them and gets' pregnant.....

OR....

you could be one of the MANY MANY women who need to be trying for a minimum of 12 months before having any luck.

it's very important that both you & your partner are on the same page. If it takes a long time, it can be very upsetting, heartbreaking, etc...and having someone there to support you is VERY important..

I would wait until you are absolutely prepared if it happens immediately. Chat Icon And hopefully, it will for you. I think it's nearly impossible to pinpoint an exact month you want to give birth tho!

Re: Question about when to start TTC

It could take one month - or many many months - unfortunately we never know.

I know so many people who have gotten lucky on the first try. It took us three months with my son - and now we are currently on our third month for #2. I also have friends and family who are going on over two years Chat Icon Chat Icon

You just never know! Chat Icon

The only thing I have learned about TTC is that you can never control it - and it never happens the way you plan!

Re: Question about when to start TTC

The way I see it is...either February is your month, or it's not. If you've been trying for several months, it still doesn't give you a better chance that you will conceive in February, KWIM? I would not start trying until you are fully prepared to have that baby--no matter what month he or she arrives.

Either way, I don't think it's silly to take these things into consideration--I think many of us do!
