Question about IVF
I know this is probably a dup question and Im sorry, but just wanted some information, I currently have a 4 month old daughter who has a terminal genetic disease, the only hope for my husband and I to have future healthy children is to do IVF, we are not ready right now but just wanted the info for when the time comes ( we are told they can test the embryos for the disease before implanting them, ) anyway I was wondering if you can all let me know how long the process takes for the moment you make that first appt to the moment of transfer, and also if you can reccomend any doctors, thank you ladies for your help

Re: Question about IVF
The test is called PGD testing. Day 3 after the Embryo Retrieval (ER), one cell is spliced from the embryo and sent to a special laboratory for testing. The results are back within 48hours and the transfer is done on Day 5.
I am not sure about the disease your daughter has. The laboratory may have to make special testing for this, it could take a month or so, this is what I have heard, I have not done it myself.
I would recommend seeing a Reprodutive Endocrinologist to discuss your specific situation so you can gather all the information possible to make the best decision for you and your DH.
Good luck and my prayers for your daughter.

Re: Question about IVF
I'm so sorry about your daughter
To answer one of your questions, my IVF, from AF to transfer, took about 6 weeks.
Good luck.

Re: Question about IVF
I am sorry for what you are facing with your daughter. IVF will allow preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to be utilzed to determine the "health" of your embryos before transfer back to you. The testing is expensive and usually not covered by insurance. IVF takes about 6 weeks from start to pregnancy test. Best of luck!!
