Question about Dr checking to see how much baby weighs?
I am now 33 weeks, my last appt was about a week ago, I asked him how much the baby weighed, he said about 2 pounds. This was a month ago. My ? is how is your dr telling u how much the baby weighs? Are they guessing or are they doing a sono?
Thanks

Re: Question about Dr checking to see how much baby weighs?
They can give you an average by whatever week you are. Some doctors do growth sono's to see the weight, with DS they didn't, with DD they are going to.
Also growth sono's can be completely off, and they aren't exact science, so there really is no way of truly knowing the weight of your baby.

Re: Question about Dr checking to see how much baby weighs?
My doctor does a growth sono every two weeks. They should be measuring FOUR different parts of the body to get the weight. Many doctors cut corners and only measure one part hence why so many estimates are way off. At 33 weeks, my baby was estimated at 5 pounds.

by growth sono at 31 weeks, DS was 3.13! I go for weekly growth sono's and NSTs now due to some blood clotting disorders

I have no idea how they do this and I was wondering too. At my sono yesterday, they told me the baby is about 7 ounces (I'm 17 weeks). It all amazes me.

Re: Question about Dr checking to see how much baby weighs?
I am wondering the same thing because it seems like all the people I know who are pregnant are told how much their LO weighs and I've been left in the dark for weeks now! My doctor said that at 32 weeks they do a growth sono...I'm wondering if they'll do it at my next appointment because I'll be 30 weeks.

I don't get growth sonos or estimates I wish I did but my doctor said I'd only get one if they felt I needed or my stomach was measuring too big/small.

Re: Question about Dr checking to see how much baby weighs?
i only get told the weight estimate at the growth sono....not during the check ups.
i had one at 31w and one at 34w. i dunno if i get any more. the tech is the one that tells me the estimate (based on whatever measurements she takes).
at 34w - 5 lbs 6 oz.
