Question about Clomid

Hello ladies, hope it is okay that I pop on here and ask a question about the risk of multiples with clomid. I have a short LP and my doctor prescribed me 50mg of Clomid

I have to go back in on CD13 for a folicle check. Does the number of folicles increase my risk for multiples. Let's say I have 2 folicles that are big enough and they give me an injection to force ovulation, will this increase my risk of twins?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, TIA for any advice you can give me

Re: Question about Clomid

I believe multiples while taking clomid is something like 8-10%. HTH! Chat Icon

Hey Aunt Steph! Chat Icon

If you have two follicles big enough when you ovulate, then you definitely have a chance of both of them fertilizing.

Re: Question about Clomid

I had 3 mature follies the cycle I conceived twins.
The cycle before that I had 4 mature follies, and only conceived 1. (this sadly ended in miscarriage)

Re: Question about Clomid

I'm not sure in terms of follicles, but my RE said that generally the multiples rate with Clomid is 1/10.

Re: Question about Clomid

I was told that the chance of twins is about 10% on Clomid and that the chance of triplets or more is much, much, lower.

Re: Question about Clomid

The risk with Clomid isn't extremely high (like others said ~10%), BUT injecting HCG to force ovulation does raise the chances (there are a bunch of numbers out there and i don't know which is right, so i won't even suggest a ballpark %).

The dose also makes a difference (it's more likely with the higher dose than with the 50mg dose).

I took clomid 50mg and triggered with Ovidrel (a form of HCG). I don't know yet if i'm PG with twins (my sono is on the 22nd), but my betas were very high so the possibility is there. Just something to keep in mind Chat Icon
