Pumpkin Picking question
I really want to take Joey to White Post or Hicks next month and go pumpkin picking. It will also make a great photo op DH thinks it's stupid to bring him pumpkin picking, he will be 5 months in October. He is part of the school of belief that says, don't do anything with your kid until they are 4 because they won't remember anything before then anyway. I think it would be so cute to dress him in his Halloween onesie and put him in a wagon and take him around the farm. Has anyone ever taken their babies with them pumpkin picking? Was it a complete waste of time? DH really makes me wonder sometimes

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
Umm, I'm totally looking forward to propping Ryan up in a pumpkin patch. I don't think it's too early to start traditions with Joey!
ETS: He may not remember it, but you will and Joey will see the pics one day. Besides, no harm in having a nice family outing - why does it matter if Joey remembers it ? Men

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
I happened to be lurking and saw your post. It's not about the baby remembering the event, it's about doing something as a family and making memories for yourself. I'm due in 2 weeks and we already have our costume for the baby (who will only be a month old at Halloween) and we plan on taking the baby down to the Halloween Festival and to the pumpkin patch as well and not because it means anything to the baby but it's their first Halloween and our first holiday as a family so it's something we will remember forever.
I say go to the farm and enjoy and don't worry about what the baby will remember...........make memories for yourself and take lots of pictures so when the baby is older you can tell them all about the fun things you did with them when they were small.

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
We took DS pumpkin picking last year...he was just shy of 5 months.
We went with friends and had a great time...he won't actually remember being there but I do believe he will LOVE looking back at the pictures and seeing all the fun we've had.
I wouldn't trade this day in for any other...it was so much fun and I love looking back at these pictures!

I just wanted to add that it annoys me when people have that why bother -- they won't remember anyway attitude.
We took DS to a Mets game recently and the lady behind us kep saying it was cute, but a waste cause he won't remember it. First, I will always remember it and second, I will show him pictures of his only trip to Shea Stadium when he gets older!

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
I took my first DD for the first time when she was 2 months old. I got some great pictures. I also took my younger DD last year when she was 3 days old. I wouldn't have missed it for the world! My girls are will be 2 and 1 this year and I will take them again this year even though chances are they won't remember it. Here was my 2 month old back in 2006:

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
Thanks ladies!! I will need to show DH your adorable pictures tonight when he gets home. He is in for a rude awakening if he thinks I am sitting in the house and doing nothing with this child until he is 4. Little does he know I already have plans to continue our tradition of going to see the Rockefeller Christmas tree this year--he thinks we are stopping cause the baby came...YEA RIGHT

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
That's what I keep telling DH about Disney. I wanted to go already but he was like "no let's wait till he's a least 4 where he will remember it more"...Ummm i'm sure he will not be going to Disney just once in his lifetime...geez...
But anyways I think it's fine to bring your baby pumpkin picking. The pictures will be so cute. We didn't take DS when he was a baby (don't why we didn't even think of it) but he went last year when he was 16 months and although he didn't understand or remember he sure had fun running around and touching all the pumpkins. So what if they don't remember that's what pictures are for, to show them when they are older. Tell your DH to get with it...

TAKE HIM!!! It doesn't matter if HE doesn't remember, all that matters is that it is something you remember right??
And, you wouldn't have pics like this one in my memory books.
She was a little older, but its something I will always cherish. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
I think you guys will have a great time going. Of course the baby won't remember the experience, that's why you bring a camera!
With DH's work schedule, we didn't actually get to go pumpkin picking, but we did bring her to a local farm just for a few pics - she was 3 months

My son is 2 and has been to shea twice. Once last year and once this year. Will he remember it? No. And growing up he'll probably remember going to games at Citifield but I'll have pictures of him at shea stadium to show him when he's older.

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
Go! DS was only 6 months but he, and we, enjoyed it. My DH, who is often the same way about things, even got into it when we were there and started being a director. "Prop him up against the pumpkin and then crouch down behind it to hold him up and move a little to the left cause I don't want to see you in the pic...." There were also some other things there that DS enjoyed besides the pumpkins. They're only that age once!!!! And maybe everyone would like to look back on those pics when they kids are older and then you can tell them about that day!

I brought my oldest at 5 months and my youngest at 4 months.
It's their first halloween/pumpkin picking you can't miss it!!!
We moved some pumpkins around in the patch, but some bags on the floor cause it was muddy, put the baby propped up against pumpkins and snapped a thousand pics..
GO!!

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
My DD is 3 1/2 right now and she remembers certain things and events from a year ago.... Will all of these wonderful experiences be stored in her long term memory with great detail when she is 20? Probably not. But she will always remember that we used to do fun things with her all the time.... she might not remember exact details but she will remember the feeling.... the feeling of mommy and daddy allowing her to explore new things, new places, new people. Pumpkin picking is one of our new traditions....KWIM?

Re: Pumpkin Picking question
DS was about 5 months at his first Pumpkin Picking event, and we've gone every year since.
(And, yes, his sweatshirt DOES say "Lil Goldenrod".... )
The pic of DD was at 1.5 years, but we took her at 5 months as well.
Honestly, I don't remember anything from when I was 4.... does that mean I should have been kept locked in my room at home until I was about 10 or so? They have fun at the moment, and you'll remember it. That's what matters. Image Attachment(s):
