PSEG Scam Alert

Got an email from PSEG this morning about a new scam going around. My notice went into my spambox so I almost missed it. Figured I'd post it here as a heads up JIC anyone else might have missed it. I'm sure most people wouldn't fall for it but they prob target older folks that can be confused easily into thinking their payments haven't been received. I'll have to call my mom and warn her. She falls for everything

We want you to be aware of a growing phone scam that is targeting utility customers. Phone scammers posing as PSEG Long Island employees call and insist you are delinquent on your bill. They may also threaten to turn off your power, rig caller ID to make it look like the call is from PSEG Long Island or tell you to put the money on a prepaid debit card and ask for the card number. Don't believe it. DO NOT pay over the phone if the caller demands immediate payment to avoid a disconnection or that you pay using only one, specific payment method. Here's what to do if the call seems suspicious: 1. Hang up 2. Call us at 1-800-490-0025 3. Call the Police

Re: PSEG Scam Alert

Yeah a utility company calling to ask for you to pay on a prepaid debit card- sounds legit. LOL

I saw a video once of a guy who was playing along with the IRS scammers. They were telling him he needed to go to Target and buy gift cards in the amount he "owed" the IRS and then give those gift card numbers to them over the phone.

Yeah because we all know the IRS accepts payment in the form of Target gift cards.

OMG I saw them interview a girl on the news. She was college aged and fell for the scam. Sent the "IRS" about $7500 in target gift cards. Like really? When does common sense kick in? I hate to laugh but really?
