Provera
So my whole life I have had a long men. cycle...always like 40 days. I was getting my period every 6 weeks (give or take) Well at this point to date I have only had my period once this year...in Feb. I went to the dr and he was very thorough and didn't seem too concerned because when I do get my period, it's normal...not super heavy or super long. I went for blood work yesterday to test FSH, thyroid and Prolactin levels and tonight I start my prescription of Provera. Has anyone had any experience like this...I'm hoping that once my Rx with Provera is through my cycle is a bit more regular so I can start to track it. He did talk to me about Chlomid as a possibility after 6 months of trying. (He said he usually has patients try for longer but because of my history of irregular cycles...he would "help" us out sooner...)-any advice with Chlomid? We are hoping to start TTC late summer-early fall, but I'm not sure if everything will get on track by then. Any suggestions or advice on tracking irregular cycles?

Re: Provera
Wow i could have basically written your post. I too have always had 40+ day cycles. Last spring i had AF in Feb and didnt get again til late April after going on Provera. 2 mons later dr started me on clomid. It was incredible how regular i became and how easy it was to track ovulation. I did get pregnant on clomid too. It did end in m/c but thats neither here nor there.
After the m/c my cycles were AMAZING!! 30 days on the dot. We BDed the month we got green light from dr and now im 13 wks pregnant
Anyway, didnt mean to go on about myself. I just wanted ot give you some encouragement.
Good luck and hope to see you on PG boards soon

Re: Provera
My doctor put me on Provera in January/February and after using it the first month I haven't had to use it since! AF was pretty much on a 28-30 day cycle since the one month I used it. I am on my last month of Clomid before my next visit (if I am not PG next month).
I registered on mymontlycycles.com last month, maybe the site can help you keep track too.
Good luck and hope your stay is short and sweet!

Re: Provera
long post.. warning..
I could have also written your post & I left my obgyn who like yours, wasn't concerned about me not getting AF on a reg basis. For the past 3 years, I would get a period 3 or 4 times a year & she told me not to worry about it
I tried Provera in Nov and have gotten AF every month until March... so I guess it stopped working? Provera made me really sick.. vomiting/dizziness/ cramps for 10 hours straight at day 3 of taking the pill - I couldn't even finish all 7 pills.
My new obgyn gave me a Rx for Clomid but was afraid to take it because of the side effects so I found a fertility supplemental vitamin online after my doc's visit & started taking those instead. Anyway, I just got a positive result on my OPK this past weekend (when in the past 2 months, i have never had a positive) so in 2 weeks I can take a preg test. I am really hopefull that I can get preg off of this fertility supplement instead of having to take clomid & risking feeling that bad again. The supplement helps women who have irregular cycles & do not ovulate. .. just wanted to give you my story.
for you

Re: Provera
Thanks for the replies...they definately have made me feel better. I guess its the unknown that is so scary. The anticipation of waiting on the blood results is KILLING me. I'm excited to finally (hopefully) be getting AF and I'm crossing my fingers that my cycle gets on track like you ladies!
One of my coworkers said Chlomid made her feel highstrung at times...(which is not unusal for me lol) and she sometimes got "hot flashes" Did anyone have side effects from the Chlomid?

Re: Provera
i'm on provera too. my ob/gyn had me to take all 5 pills, 10 mg at one time and he said to expect a bleed in 5 to 7 days. it's been 3 days since i took the pills and no signs of af yet! has anyone else heard of taking provera this way, i know usually you either take 5, 7, or 10 but 1 pill at a time! i hope this works because dh and I are ttc. i just had a tubal reversal on february 26, 2009.

Re: Provera
The Dr wants you to take more than 1 pill at a time?? I haven't heard of that but I don't have much experience with all of this.
I have heard of a couple of different RX amounts...I'm on a 10 day dose and dr told me to expect AF within a week...otherwise I have to go back.

Re: Provera
My cycles since going off the pill have been super irregular and often 60! days. My doctor checked prolactin levels, hormones, etc. but sono/bloodwork showed I was actually ovulating - just not with any regularity so we started clomid this cycle and just yesterday (CD 51), I got a BFP. A week and a half ago, I was getting BFNs and I spoke to the doctor - we were convinced the clomid didn't work, upped my dosage for round 2, and he thought about putting me on Provera, but decided against it given how far into the cycle we already were so I have nothing to add on Provera, but I didn't have any bad side effects on clomid. My ovaries felt very active - I could definitely feel them and sometimes it was painful, but that's really it. I also just wanted to offer some encouragement - irregularity can be dealt with these days!! Good luck!!
