Progestrone shots
Has anyone done the progestrone oil shots? I have to start soon since we are going right into our FET and I"m terrified. I'm more scared about DH doing them. Any tips or advice?

Re: Progestrone shots
I recently just went through the progesterone in oil shots. I HATE needles but I found it to not be as bad as I thought. In the beginning I found that icing the injection site afterwards for a little bit was helpful as well as just laying down for a little bit helped. ALso remember to rotate sides each night. Just remember it is all for a good cause and will be worth it in the end. Each shot you do is 1shot closer to the end.
DH was nervous at first but after a couple of times it was like second nature. Hope this helps

Ice while you prepare the injection. Afterwards, massage the area for about 2 mins and then apply a heating pad for 10-20 minutes.
To prepare the PIO, I'd soak the bottle in warm water to "soften" the liquid. It makes it easier to get into the syringe and then inject.
Also, remember to switch the needle to inject with the correct gauge.
PIO looks more intimidating than it is.

IT SUCKS...but it will be over before you know it and worth every one.
Id massage the area and dont tighten your butt when your injecting it...after you do it then ice for 5 minutes...
Any IM shot isnt going to feel good but its far less painful then child birth which is our goal here :)

I actually did not find it that bad. Yes-it is a thicker needle but I do not like the suppositories any better. Plus my body does not really absorb them as well as a shot.
As for my advice, I say ice for 10 minutes. Have DH hold the shot in his hand to warm it up. Lay on your belly, relax your butt. DH will inject. After DH injects he automatically starts rubbing for me for about 3 minutes. Then, have a heating pad ready for you. I lay on the heating pad for at least 10 minutes.
I know some people say heat first heat last, but I am ok with the ice first so I will keep it that way.
Best of luck!

Progestrone shots
i always iced first for at least 5-10 minutes prior and warmed the PIO vial in a cup of warm water. DH always did the inject while i was standing up leaning over. afterwards i always did the heating pad for at least a half hour. any less and id be sore the next day. half the time id fall asleep on the heating pad. its not fun but in the end it is worth it. my progesterone at my first beta was 189 or something crazy like that. only PIO will do that, suppositories wont raise your blood serum progesterone.

Re: Progestrone shots
Just my 2 cents since I'm doing PIO shots for the third time now...
I put the vial of medication inside my bra to warm it up for a few minutes. I also put EMLA cream (by prescription) on the area 20-30 minutes prior to injection because it numbs the area and you don't feel the needle going in. Just put saran wrap over the cream so you don't get it on your underwear in those 20-30 minutes.
Massage area for 1-2 minutes after injection. You won't have any soreness the next day.
EMLA and massage are key!

Numbing cream??? This is revolutionary!! (not really, but in my world ) I'm in a situation where my doc is going to force me to face the medieval needle after all, and I'm freaking out a little. This would do wonders for my bravery.

Progestrone shots
Don't look at the needle! Don't watch videos of it being administered! DH was awesome and did them really well. I saw the needle one night accidentally and screamed and cried and was hysterical and I couldn't get off the couch. It was insane and so dumb.
DH numbed me with a ton of ice for a good 7-10 minutes. I swear I could barely feel it. It isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
You can do it!!!
