progestrone shots

has anyone here taken these shots ??

all i know is that i was 3 month pregnant and my doctor recomended i took progestrone shots since the baby looked a little small But it was ok & last week i went in for a check up after taking the shots of this progestrone shots and the dr tells me THERS NO HEART BEAT!!!! NOW I HAVE TO DO A D&C . this is so painfull for me since its my 1st baby and i thought i was on the clear after 3 month . please advise if anyone has taken this Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i dont know too much about the shots.. but after my loss the doctor wanted me to get the progesterone shots with my next pregnancy.. to prevent pre-term labor.

From experience... progesterone shots are not synthetic progesterone. Some women don't produce enough progesterone in early pregnancy to help sustain a pregnancy in the early weeks. You need progesterone until the placenta starts to take over, generally around week 10. Progesterone injections, will not cause miscarriage. Further is that at 3 1/2 months pregnant, progesterone levels are not AS important as they are in the beginning as the placenta is now taken over and is doing the job. I've never heard of a doctor prescribing progesterone (let alone progesterone shots) once you are in the 2nd trimester. Most women who are on Progesterone shots or Progesterone suppositories are off and done with them bewteen 8-12 weeks.
