it is really scary-- I could not imagine being in HS now- I was a new kid in school too! That was hard enough without rumors, etc. being emailed and posted around.
I think technology jus escalates all of that kind of stuff-- and because everything is so impersonal, these kids feel it;s easier to be mean and really insult people-- it's also so much more anonymous.
This is exactly why you need to limit your kid's computer time.

I am not watching it, but I did see a piece on Good Morning America this morning about it. Are they saying whether the schools are taking a strong position on certain things?
I can imagine if they said no camera cell phones at school to fight some of these types of incidents, there would be a huge backlash saying that the kids should be allowed to have anything their parents let them have. I did work in HS a while ago, I can't imagine having to deal with cyber bullying.

I loved high school-- but no matter what-- everyone experiences this kind of sh*t... No one is free from it. I still feel like some of this goes on at work or whatever on some level with people that are less mature.

UGH!! for me it was junior high more than high school--but UGH... these girls are AWFUL!!!!!!!!
How can a person be so mean and cruel, I just don't understand it. I tell my students, there is enough pain and suffering in the world without you adding to it.

Jr. High School was pretty bad for me. I was picked on by the "popular" girls. Although I hated being picked on and didn't understand why they were bothering me, I also realized that they weren't people I wanted to be friends with, so I didn't try to get on their good side (in retrospect, that must have bothered them even more).
I hope that if I have a daughter one day, my DH and I can raise her to be true to herself and not care about popularity.
