Pregger crashing to ask a question.
I'm registering today and wanted some ideas of what you ladies thought were some must haves. What brands are good, etc. This is so overwhelming!
Thanks!!!!!

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
As a new Mom (DS is 11 weeks), I can tell you what I would not live without:
- A good Monitor (We have the Summer Infant Best View and love it) - A Swing (We have The FP Little Lamb one) - A Bouncer - Play Mat for Tummy Time (we have Baby Eienstein one) - Boppy (I did not BF, but I still use it when feeding him. So much easier!!!) - Bumbo - Snap n' Go stroller - FP Rock and Play Sleeper (We bring this with us when we go to my Mom's or DS naps in it) - Pack 'n' Play, we have yet to put DS in it, BUT we use it for the changing area right now and it's in our den so we don't have to run upstairs to change him). Figure we will get more use when he is older and can play in it. - A sound machine (Homedics SoundSpa Lullaby Sound Machine. It's $20 and we put on the heartbeat sound for DS everynight, can't live without it) - Little Diaper garbage bags (These are really cheap and we have yet to use the diaper pail. We put his dirty diapers in the little bags, tie them and toss them. They are scented so no smelly diaper scents going on in the house. - Car seat, we have the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant car seat and love it, has great reviews. We also have the Britax for when DS is older.
I still have a ton we have yet to use because DS is not ready (Highchair, exersaucer and some other things so I can't comment on what I like yet vs. what I picked out)
For the big stuff, you should really go in person and see what you like. There is so much on the market and yes it's totally overwhelming, but take your time in the store, don't feel rushed and you will probably change it 100X when you get home on-line like we all did - LOL
Best of luck

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
our favorite items
I didn't realize this but I guess we are fans of Fischer Price (FP)
rainforest swing (goes up to 20 lbs) infant to toddler rocker (grows with the baby) space saver high chair (I took it with us to grandmas for Thanksgiving)
swaddling blankets, you might want to register for a few different kinds, most infants do very well swaddled, but it takes practice and technique some blankets are easier than others we used: Swaddle Designs swaddling blankets
Bjorn Babysitter (excellent bouncy that grows with the baby goes up to 35 lbs)
Tiny Love CLIPnGO Music Mobile DS loved the black and white side for a long time, so look for black and white But all the Tiny Love mobiles are great
MiYim loveys we can't live without them
As for clothes, carters is pretty durable, good qaulity basics. You might find the pants a bit narrow for a normal baby. Some babies grow fast, We were in 3m clothes by the end of the first month. Some grow slow, you can't really predict what you'll need. So I'd register for basics, mostly in the 6m and up category. You can always buy what you need later.

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
we just had a thread the other day about stuff we thought was a waste of money, you should look that up!
here were/are my must haves: -swing -snap & go -gloworm -my pump & its accessories -a radio for white noise -disposable changing pads!!! -side snap onesies -bouncer -my chicco fold high chair -a washable diaper bag (it gets so dirty) -exersaucer
i thought a bassinet was a huge waste of money, as is a wipes warmer, travel system (the stroller is bulky & heavy), tummy time mat (should have just used a receiving blanket and toys). Also try not to open & clean all bottles & pacis (she never took to a bottle or a paci) or take tags off & wash all clothes (you'll never use them all).

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
Well, right away, you need to have
Side-snap t-shirts zip-up sleepers/sleep sacks (messing with snaps or buttons at 3am is no fun, lol) receiving blankets (find some with a little stretch to them; it'll make swaddling easier) Boppy pillow Diapers, wipes bathtub w/hammock (to bathe them before the cord falls off) towels w/hoods, washcloths Cloth diapers/burp cloths Infant carseat Medala pump and accessory kit if BFing
Have fun registering!

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
I have a newborn as well:
boppy if you are bfing a good pump if you are bfing (medela) sleepsacks snap and go pack and play - we also use as a bassinet summer infant video monitor we got the city elite baby jogger and car seat attachment, instead of a travel system.
I wouldn't go crazy with layette items- you will get so many clothes.

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
The bouncy saved my sanity. DD had reflux and it was the only place she slept for months! Swing. Only place she naps. Helps after shots when she was cranky. Pack and play w/ bassinett feature we used this in our room for a long time, and now for travel. Also pack and play sheets. Bobby. I use it to BF. Get some covers too. Video monitor is my number one suggestion! We also have the summer infant one. Love it! Crib sheets you need more than you think. California baby wash and lotion super sensitive!

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
a lot of burp cloths/bibs bc they stain easy and there are many feeding per day! bouncy seat (we have the little lamb and love it) a bunch of bassinet sheets (if you are using a bassinet) i change dd's sheets pretty often especially if she spits up on it
having a lot of bibs/sheets/etc. helps to not have to do laundry everyday!
swaddles

Re: Pregger crashing to ask a question.
I loved my chicco cortina travel set (stroller and infant seat.) we used the infant seat so much and at times it was the only thing DS would sleep in.
Pack and play. i bought one withthe changing station/bassinet thing, but that hardly went used. We had to buy a 2nd PNP for our upstairs when DS slept in our room during the summer for AC. I have a Chicco PNP and a graco one.
A swing..we have a fisher price swing that converts to a toddler rocking chair. its great!
lots of disposable diaper cloths which make great burp cloths!
lots of onesies and bibs!
