pre-conception bloodwork?
Has anyone else had this done?
I just had it done this morning and I have NO idea what they took 327846237 vials of blood for. What do they test for?

tell me about it.. i was light headed after it.. 
but i told they check for rubella, chicken pox, blood group, fragile x, thyroid, anemia.. and bunch of other things.. 
eta: it was very nerve wrecking because i didn't know what it was for..

It's super that you had this done!!
I would have loved it!!
I went to a dr before we were trying and told her. She never suggested this and I didn't know it even existed until afterwards.
I never saw her again.

I got it done as well. Yeah it was a lot. When I saw the guy take all these tubes and just keep taking them out I was like

ummmmm.....WOW!!!! Thanks for posting this!!! My Dr NEVER did this & i saw him last May for my pre conception blood work & explained we were going to start TTC in July (we ended up pushing it back to Jan) and all he did was get me on Folic Acid and gave me a few samples of prenatals. I even saw him again in Sept and we talked about TTC & he never said ANYTHING about blood work!!!!  That is it, this guy is history!!!!!

I had this done. It was taking us some time with out first and this was the first step with the RE. I had about 20 vials taken and DH had about 5- fair ratio, right??? To be honest, I have no idea what they were checking for. But it just gets you used to all the poking that gets done during pregnancy  I was always getting a needle stuck in my arm. So not fun!

I had this done whne I was checked for pcos and I asked what they also took so much blood for and I was tested for fragile x ,thyroid,cholesterol,glucose,hiv,stds,all immunizations...there was def more but I can't think lol...it was 10 viles of blood!!!!

the took 10 vials of blood last week. Actually I was just reading the results and googling stuff (I know I shouldnt do that- according to my version of the results, I think I now have leukemia  not funny)
they did chemistry- glucose, sodium, co2, stuff like that
hematology- thats where i think i have cancer- white blood count, platelets etc
hemoglobin
immunohematology
measles mumps rubella syphilis etc
hep, hiv
and lastly, endocrinology- horomones- Fsh, tsh, lh, hgc

Neither me nor any of my friends had "pre-conception" blood work done. You only need this done if you are concerned about a medical condition that you may have currently that would interfere with getting pregnant or maintaining a pregnancy etc. Otherwise you will have blood work done once you go in for your first prenatal appointment. Don't worry, your doctor isn't bad if they didn't schedule you for it!

thanks for the info ladies. at least now i know why i have a snarky looking bruise forming where the needle went in lol.
i shd totally be used to this shiiiiz from getting my thyroid checked all the time, but it never seems to get easier.

idk whether it's standard or not standard, but i will say that i take synthroid daily and also expressed concern about my short LP. perhaps that's why he suggested doing it today while I was there anyway. he made it sound like it was routine but perhaps it's not.

Am I the only one who had this done but have no idea what they tested for! I never heard anything so I figured that's a good thing. I also definitely didn't look to see how many bottles the took. Ignorance is bliss right?

Yeah I don't know anyone IRL that did this.
