I do sometimes, sometimes I don't..from my career, when I worked, I had a lot of contacts at the dept stores and at the corporate level that would sometimes be able to help me with discounts...I also scour the sales...Saks has an insane sale twice a year that I got an amazing prada bag that I adore for a good portion off!!

There are consignment shops you can get them at, sales at big department stores, (reputable) ebay sellers, and outlet shops too...

I remember this sale when I lived in the city and didn't have 2 kids to tote around everywhere!  Is the next one in June? Do you get advance warning? I remember trying to be there in the store the first day.

For reputable ebay sellers and any upcoming private event sales. I refer to my ladies on the purseforum! they are the holy grail when it comes to any designer bags/shoes or anything designer!

I'm obsessed with this site, and for someone that has a shopping problem it's not good at all!!!!
As for the sale, I thin it is in June...I actually go this one at the Huntington one randomly...I was dying for this one Prada bag called sales ppl at both the NY and Huntington Store, the one from the Huntington store tracked it down for me and got it shipped for me

I have a bunch of LVs and bought most of them on ebay or from a handbag forum I used to frequent, but only because I knew exactly what to look for and am well versed in authenticating LV (thanks to said handbag forum). I used to be able to authenticate Coach too but I haven't kept up with the latest styles and can only tell based on general stitching/quality/etc. Dont know a darn thing about the others although I do have one Gucci baby jackie o bag that my buddies at the handbag forum authenticated for me and that I compared with a Gucci my friend bought in Italy.
I only have one LV purchased from the actual boutique.
I caution that you have to REALLY know what you are looking for and do your research carefully because there are a lot of scammers out there and even then you risk someone doing a bait and switch with stolen photos. Luckily I've never been burned.
Lesser bags like Coach, Longchamp, etc I usually buy from the flagship store.
Edit: I bought my Gucci sunglasses online from a reputable vendor that deals mainly in regular glasses
