Potty Training Questions
DS is 3.5 now. Finally starting to get potty trained. He has been in underwear for a few days now and so far ( knock on wood) has been doing well.
First... He doesn't really ask yet to go. I kee asking him and he will automatically say No and sometimes if I know he has to go he will follow me and go or I catch him holding himself then I know he has to go and I take him to the bathroom. Once in a while he will start to head to the bathroom. Is that ok? Shouldn't he be asking to go?
Second... Still poopy is tough. He doesn't get it and has made in his underwear a few times. The other day he sorta got it and he was trying to go. We have a little potty seat he sits on. The problem is he's used to pooping standing up. At home I know when he has to go when he goes to the play house and holds one hand on it to hold himself up. He has to learn to sit and poop, but I guess it's tough since he's been standing so long. Advise?
Last... He's been training at home and when we've gone to family we brought the potty seat cover. Both have a splashguard. He's been learning to sit so far and has done it standing once or twice. Not fun! Anyway, he goes by leaning forward and the splashguard blocks the pee. Now he's at school so the teacher said he has to learn to hold his pee pee down. I asked or helped him a few times. Just hope he gets it. It's still new and we are getting there. Just looking for some tips or advise
Thanks!

Re: Potty Training Questions
1.) L pooped in his pants for a MONTH!! Everyday he went and that was the most regular he ever was . One day I caught him about to go and swept him up and brought him to the bathroom. I hugged him and told him we were not getting up until he went and he did and never had another accident.
2.) I would ask him every hour or so if he has to go and if he says no ask him to just try and see. Chances are he may have to go. They never asked to go to the bathroom. They just went on there own or asked me to help them (more D).
3.) For sitting, all he has to do is use his pointer finger and lightly press it down. If you can take off the splash guard I would take it off. I didn't teach standing until he could reach.
One thing I would advise to get is a step stool. Those plastic ones are fine and keep it in the bathroom. When he has to poop have him plant his feet on there and that will help him to go. My kids still use it sometimes.

Thanks A. This really helps. Sounds like a boy thing with the poop. Lol

Re: Potty Training Questions
1) when I first trained my 3 year old about 2 months ago, it took about 2 weeks until he started telling me had to go. I just kept asking him & reminding him. If I caught him holding himself, I immediately brought him into the potty. Our bathroom is in the playroom, so now he announces he's going in the potty & I just assist him in pulling up his pants.
2) we are still not poop trained. He goes in his underwear & lately I make him help clean up his "accident". I think he's scared of sitting to go too bc he always stands in a corner to go. If I happen to catch him in the process, I rush him in but lately that results in with holding. I'm trying to rig up something like a step stool so he could have his feet grounded like he was standing.
3) once we got into potty training, I immediately taught him to stand up & go bc I knew in school it would be an issue. We actually made a game of watching him make bubbles in the potty.
