Potluck housewarming- tacky???
I'm writing the invites now for a housewarming party for about 30 co-workers (teachers). We arent exactly rolling in $$$ right now to feed everyone and can't cut the list anymore (was originally around 50)
So truthfully, is it tacky to ask people to bring a dish, dessert, or drink to the party?
DH and I would supply everything else- soda, mixers, paper goods, main dishes etc.

I would not ask my guests to bring anything to a housewarming party. I would modify the menu.

I would rather call it a cocktail party and have a signature drink and beer. People will naturally bring you wine and other stuff.

Re: Potluck housewarming- tacky???
I would do hambergs/hot dogs, corn on the cob, salad, fresh veggies w/dip and fresh fruit w/ice cream and whipped topping...keep it simple and use fresh veggies/fruit....farmers markets are opening and so the prices will be awsome...I would not do a potluck...it's a party where people are coming to say congratulations to you...I get that with the economy and having just bought a house you're not rolling in the dough, but you should provide the meal. Re: Potluck housewarming- tacky???
OK....thanks for the feedback. Will modify the menu and have it be more low-key.
I also looked online and saw some etiquette sites that say its a no-no for a housewarming so.....
Thanks again!

Since it's a housewarming, people will be bringing gifts already - I wouldn't ask them to also bring food.
Modify the menu, or if $$ is that tight, then don't have anything
