Postpartum hair loss?
I had dd 4 months ago and I'm losing more hair than I ever thought possible. I had a LOT of hair and I'd say I have less than half of what I had a few months ago.
Anyone else experience this? Tips? Did your hair go back to normal? Please say it did. I'm considering going to a dermatologist because I feel like it shouldn't be THIS bad.

Postpartum hair loss?
It was sooo bad for me. Clumps and clumps. I would wash my hair and almost Have enough for a wig for someone in the drain. Stopped st about 6 months. My hair grew back in annoying little pieces but it's pretty much normal now

Re: Postpartum hair loss?
I had a lot of loss starting at 4 months too. It was pretty scary. Stopped at about 8 months for me. Hair is back to normal now.

Yes, this. I thought I had escaped it because it didn't start until about 4 months pp but nope! It really is awful but it does stop and I think it mostly (if not completely) grew back.
eta- I remember regularly clogging the shower drain, finding my hair all over the house (gross!) and having to clean out my hairbrush daily.

Re: Postpartum hair loss?
Normal. My sister lost a TON of hair. SO much so that her hairstylist started to become concerned. I think it stopped at around one year.

Re: Postpartum hair loss?
It lasted about 6 months with both of my pregnancies. Your body doesn't lose as much hair when you're pregnant, so now it's losing what you would've lost during those 9 months.
You haven't lost half of your hair, I assure you.

Postpartum hair loss?
I am 5 months PP and it is awful. I look like I have a receeding hairline. The shower drain is constantly clogged and there is hair everywhere! Its very upsetting. I am taking Biotin. It's supposed to help.

Yes! This is how my OB explained it to me as well. He said that the pregnancy hormones slow down the normal shedding cycle. So you are actually holding on to hair you normally would have shed slowly over those 9 months. This is why a lot of women say their hair looks thicker and fuller when pregnant- it's not the prenatals- they actually don't do anything for your hair (I have taken them not pregnant and they didn't change my hair one bit) . It's the fact that your are holding on to more hair due to the slow down of the shedding cycle.
Once you give birth and your hormones start going back to normal, you are now shedding hair that you have been holding on to for 9 months. So yes, it looks scary and like a lot. But it's hair that would have normally shed slowly and less noticeably over the 9 months of pregnancy.

This exactly. I had long hair and got a haircut and felt so much better. I JUST cut my bangs again because all the little pieces growing back in around my hairline were finally long enough to be bangs. It was annoying but thank goodness it all grew back.

Postpartum hair loss?
For me it also started at around 4 months. But with DS2, I'm still taking my prenatals (with ds1 I stopped soon after giving birth) because I'm bfeeding and I think because I'm still taking my prenatals, I'm not losing as much hair.
Also do u have long hair? I think that can also make it look like u're losing a lot.

Re: Postpartum hair loss?
Thanks girls. It's awful, I look terrible. Yes, its long and I think I may cut it.....maybe it'll look better that way. I also have all ivory tiles in my bathroom and my hair is auburn so it looks like a wild animal got loose.
I lost 3 lbs this week and was excited. Then I realized, it's probably 3 lbs of hair

I remember around 4 months pp my hair was coming out by the handful in clumps. This lasted for several weeks. My hair seems back to normal now at almost a year pp.

Re: Postpartum hair loss?
Sorry. Normal nothing to do but complain :)
Worst is it all regrew at the same time for me. I had massive crazy bangs and my hair grows insanely slow. It's curly and hard to deal with anyway, without the feathery new growth.
By the time it reached my chin, I got pregnant again and started all over. For me, I lost less the second time around
I was really self conscious about the regrowth first time around. Legit upset as it looks bad. But this time it doesn't bother me as much. I try to remind myself that's the crazy hair that made 2 healthy beautiful kids. I know, corny, but sometimes it helps to remind yourself.
