Post-partum recovery
I saw someone pinned this online and I just read it. It's a good read but not too too overwhelming.

Re: Post-partum recovery
ITA with all of this having just gone through it. I was so clueless and was not expecting the recovery to be so painful. I wanted to kiss the nurse who showed me how to make a pad with an ice pack, tucks pads and that numbing spray. Definitely stock up on overnight pads with wings and granny underwear. I've heard a lot of hospitals have the disposable underwear but Stony Brook does not so i was so thankful to have the ones I brought.

Re: Post-partum recovery
Should I be buying a few "granny panties"? I wear full cut undies (VS) to bed normally so those I have. Do you think that would be ok?

Sooo basically ... those really pretty pajamas I bought from Destination to wear in the hospital should be left home and I'll get something crappy to wear instead?

Unless they're a super dark color that won't get stained by blood, then don't wear them! lol. I don't want to be TMI but you bleed like it's a murder scene in the first few days postpartum.
I made the mistake with my first of buying these beautiful nursing night gowns in light pink, and they were stained within an hour of putting them on. Plus, you sweat SO MUCH the first few nights after giving birth, that you're just a hot mess really, lol.

Greaaat.. well I'm really glad to know this because I bought light orange. Yes. Light tropical freakin orange that I was planning on putting on after taking a nice shower and pampering myself with some makeup.
I guess that's out!

Post-partum recovery
I bought the granny panties, I actually got the boyshort ones b/c I just feel they cover more. As far as what to wear after I took the advice and bought dark colors but I also had a super easy recovery and as soon as they let me shower I was in there showering and actually came out and put on makeup and got all dolled up, I was feeling great.

Right.There.With ya.
I just keep reminding myself how I once never thought this day would come, and it kinda keeps my anxieties at bay. I just imagine how nervous I'd be if we did NOT come this far! Seriously though, I think I may just wear my hospital gown the whole time. I doubt my visitors will show up and be like "jeez you couldn't even manage to put on a pair of pants?? And if they do they can kiss my postpartum butt! Just saying!
eta: not to hijack the post but does anyone actually plan on just wearing a hospital gown the whole time or is that dumb? Maybe black yoga pants and a large tshirt? .. I seriously bought the most tropical shade of orange for this occasion.

Post-partum recovery
You might have a tough recovery but for each bad one there are great ones.
I had a horrible pregnancy but an amazing recovery. So plan for the worst and hope for the best!!!!

Re: Post-partum recovery
FYI if you are delivering at Winthrop, LIJ, or North Shore Manhasset...they give you the disposable mesh undies which are great if you have a csection and a vaginal delivery. Ask for extras when you are there.
You could always pick up the Hanes for home(first few weeks) or bring them to the hospital just in case you don't like the mesh ones.

Re: Post-partum recovery
You definitely don't need to wear a hospital gown the whole time. I wore comfy Capris and yoga pants that I used while pregnant but they weren't maternity pants, just stretchy elastic waist band. I also wore nursing tanks and a thin zip up hoodie (I get cold in the AC). I also used slip on sneakers.
It's much more comfy to be in your clothes. You're walking around from your room to the nursery passing lots of visitors and hospital employees in the hall, plus walking around your room with your visitors there. I didn't want to be in a hospital gown.
Also, I had a C-section and wore Depends disposable underwear instead if granny panties. They wear awesome because the waist band is a large elasticy panel that rose up right over my belly avoiding my scar.

The other thing I want to add to this is ask for colace after you have the baby. My sister gave me this advice and I was so happy I did this!

I purchased all of these cute gowns and such and a new robe- I don't know what the hell I was thinking!! Lol I never wore my new gowns and only wore my new robe. I thankfully had one old gown that I packed available. I LIVED in those hospital mesh panties. I may be a freak but they were a Godsend and I stocked up on some before I left the hospital. Between wearing what was the equivalent of a Depends diaper and a binder on my abdomen, cute gowns were the farthest thing from my mind. You can definitely get away with the hospital gown and a robe the entire time.

Re: Post-partum recovery
That was a good article, but it didn’t really address post CS.
Huge underwear is a must. You want something that will sit high enough to avoid rubbing against your incision.
Also, most hospitals I believe provide wee-wee pads (seriously, they look like wee-wee pads for dogs) to line the bed with. They also manipulate them to use them as pads, because….
…No one tells CS girls how much they bleed after the surgery. Most of my girlfriends who have had natural delivery said they didn’t bleed a ton post-partum. I assume that CS girls bleed more because they don’t push anything out. Also, the first day or two afterward I would call the nursing assistant in to help me go to the bathroom and clean up. All pride goes right out the window.
They also don’t mention how swollen you are after surgery. I had the wrong size everything. This time around, I bought XXL everything to fit the spare tire I expect to have after.
Lastly, you get so much air trapped inside your abdomen after surgery so the gas pains are crazy (DH and I would celebrate every fart!!). I had tried the stoole softener trick, but honestly, it made me gassier, so I switch to milk of magnesia and it worked like a charm. It made going to the bathroom so much easier and it only took 1 dose to work. After that first BM, it was smooth sailing from there.

ITA. You will NOT want to be in a hospital gown. I would bring black yoga pants and if you are planning on nursing, nursing tanks and open sweaters.
