Poly Vi Sol vitamins....

Kristina's ped recommended that I give her vitamins, BUT, I give her so much fresh fruit and veggie, AND she drinks at minimum 24oz of form daily....

Do you think that it's really a necessity that she have vitamins? Please tell me what benefit these vitamins have besides the foods that she is getting at home.

TIA!!!

Re: Poly Vi Sol vitamins....

After a few months, babies need iron as it diminishes.

I never questioned the vitamins the Ped asked us to do.

Now at 15 months he gets one with fluoride.

Re: Poly Vi Sol vitamins....

I give the OTC vitamins with extra iron. I chose not to give the flouride (which can be a hot topic on here), but I brush DS teeth regularly and we are going to the dentist next month!

Re: Poly Vi Sol vitamins....

I don't give them since they have fluoride in them. My ped. said it was okay, has given me the script twice, but I just don't give them. I'm not comfortable with it. Her iron levels were fine when she had her blood test at around 14 months so I just continue to give her cereals and food with iron in them. When she's old enough, I'll just give her a chewable vitamin without fluoride.

I don't want to cause any trouble, but why would flouride be a hot topic? FM me if you'd rather not be subject to flames.

Re: Poly Vi Sol vitamins....

I think that the reason why she is saying that is b/c there is sufficient fluoride in tap water.

I was also warned by my BFF who is in the dental field about this...

If you over give fluoride... it can be considered a poison.... therefore - you make formula w/tap water (i use filtered, but it doesn't filter out the fluoride) the baby is receiving more than enough fluoride for the day.

Just to clarify.... K was given a script for the poly vi flor, but I won't give it to her. there's no need....

Most of Nassau if not all of Nassau doesn't have fluoride in the tap water.

I gave it to them becuase of the iron even though they ate fruits and veggies.

Milk can deplete iron levels also, and I trusted my ped to give them necessary vitamins.

Now at 3 they get a fluride vitamin and an over the counter vitamin.

Suffolk also, if you live in the city they do not need fluoride.

Re: Poly Vi Sol vitamins....

i don't think these ones have flouride in them...the flouride ones need a prescribtion.

I always gave them, for some reason I have stopped though...I am not sure why....

I am going to get a bottle and go back to it.

I have had cases of fluorosis in my family. This is why I decided personally not to give it. Others have their own reasons as well, in addition to what the PP mentioned.

and I wouldn't dare drink the tap water here anyway. Ped wants me to give DS flouride chewables, I knew too much was bad, but now maybe i will give every other day or every 3 days. Thanks.
