[Poll] Spinoff - who has a Will?

I ask if you have children because of what may happen to them if you and your spouse are deceased, and there is no clear indication of who will take guardianship of them.

I was just going to post something about this. We are expecting in November, and we were just discussing who would be the guardian of our daughter. Such a difficult decision, but a necessary one.

We just did our wills before we went on vacation without our son in August. It was not a fun thing to do, especially right before taking a vacation, but certainly a necessary one. I felt like we were so irresponsible even waiting so long after having Jake to do it.

BUT I just got off the phone with a friend that is a lawyer and she's going to get back to me today with a referral of a lawyer who does this.

We just got one but we have a 3 month old and thought it was important to get one right away.

We just did ours in May. It's pretty easy to do, we just really wanted guardenship of our children to be handled should something happen to the both of us.

Make sure you have two people in mind to take custody of your children should the need arise. We chose my DH cousin as our first choice and my brother as the second choice. Our attorney explained to us that if me, DH and his cousin travel together in a car and there is a crash and we all perish we have a back up to him. We asked both of them before putting them in the will.

Also, we told both our parents our wishes and gave them a copy of our wills. We did specify in the will that the children should have visitiation with their grandparents on a regular basis as well.

Horrible thoughts, but god forbid somehting does happen me and DH feel we have everything thought out.

Ali, those are great points. To ask the people in the Will before you go and put them as guardians! I wonder how many people don't do that.

And designating visitation requirements is a good one too. I would have never thought of that.

We won't be having children but I wonder if we can specify custody of our dogs.

We just upped and redid our life insurance policies. Then next week we are calling to do our wills. It's morbid, and I'm sure I'll cry when discussing the guardianship for our children, but it is necessary.

We don't have wills or children yet. We will make a will when we have children.

no, we don't have any children and we don't have any kind of possessions that would need to be divvied up in a will. However I told DH we really should set up a health care proxy.

I have children & we did ours. We named guardians, executors & also did our health care proxies. Copies were give out to all those named in the will.

You can do a basic one for under $100 bucks online until you can get the "official" one, if you want. lawdepot

I'm an other. We're in the process of dealing up a will. We have no children, but we just bought a house and we want things protected/our assets, etc if something would ever happen to either one of us.

We did it all before we took my daughter on our first trip together. Heath care proxy, living will, guardianship, etc.

We are currently speaking with a lawyer to pursue having a will drawn up.
