I was low on progesterone when I was pregnant with my DD. I had to do a supplement for the first 6 weeks. Last year I bought a box of Pro-Gest Progesterone at I think Whole Foods. It was individual packs, and I rubbed half a pack on either my belly, inner arms, or tops of feet each day for the first half of my cycle. It definitely helped the sore boobs! But, it made my ovulation pains much worse!
I too take an over the counter progesterone cream, but the directions say to use from ovulation to your period, so I did not encounter any ovulation pain from it.
Maybe that was my problem LOL. Or maybe I did follow the directions correctly, and did it after ovulation, I have no idea haha. I just remember noticing that my ovulation cramps were so much worse than normal!

Re: PMS bloat
I'm just surprised they sell a hormonal cream like that OTC Like how do you know if you really need it and that's your issue or you are just guessing? I assume it's a low dose and all, but hormones imbalances to me are something that need to be tested for no?

I am undergoing fertility treatment and had miscarriages due to low progestrone. That's only reason I am aware mine is low, from bloodwork at RE.

Get a Mirena and stop having periods
I really can't be on any kind of birth control. But to be honest, I'd probably stop getting periods but still get the symptoms like I was getting a period. Honestly, I don't mind getting my period. It's acutally a relief after 2 weeks of hell leading up to it!

Get a Mirena and stop having periods
I have a mirena and I am more bloated and uncomfortable than ever. I actually blame a lot of my symptoms on the mirena. And I still get my period, worse than ever before!
I hate the thing but I know if I go back on the pill I’ll forget to take it and end up pregnant so I’ll be bloated AND have a baby which is basically my worst nightmare.

I actually read that was a side effect of it- bloating. I feel like anything you do to mess with your hormones will eff you in the end. I also feel like anything that stops you from getting a period is suspect. Like aren't you SUPPOSED to get a period every month? Isn't it the natural cycle of things? Like it cleans you out and all? I would feel weird not getting a period. How would you even know if you were pregnant? I know people have gotten pregnant on mirena, i'd be freaked out every month with no period

I went 5 years not getting my period because I didn’t get it with my particular pill. It was AMAZING. I want to go back to that. I’ve always been neurotic about getting pregnant but for some reason it never bothered me. I knew I wasn’t ovulating and the pill is extremely effective if taken properly.
It also leveled out my moods and I just overall felt better. I’m not the norm though. I’m just such a disaster at baseline that anything has to be an improvement over my normal, non-medicated self.

PMS bloat
I just saw this thread and the timing is perfect. AF is due tomorrow and I’ve been bloated like a balloon since Sunday. I haven’t been wearing my normal pants to work because I actually feel like they would get stretched out because my middle section feels so big. It’s terrible. It almost feels like if someone pricked me with a pin to let out the bloat I’d feel such relief . I haven’t been helping matters because I’ve been eating like food is going out of style for the past few days - especially salty food which I’m sure is making things worse. I do think working out helps a bit, temporarily at least. It sucks. Funny thing is that this only happens for me SOME months - not all. I just want AF to come so I can get some relief and comfortably wear normal clothes again.

Re: PMS bloat
After my third, my period got so bad and so painful. I ended up going back on the pill - lo loestrine so I haven't experienced any side effects which is great- and my symptoms have really significantly decreased. I still get some bloat but no more than what you would expect. My pain is much more manageable too.

for me this issue was more hormonal than anything and being low on progesterone in the last half of my cycle. I see a naturopathic dr who helped me figure this all out.
When you are low on progesterone /estrogen and everything is out of whack, you will suffer with mood swings, sore boobs, acne and all those lovely symptoms. Mostly low progesterone leads to those issues. I had terrible sore boobs. not anymore.
Do you take a daily probiotic. if not, I suggest a high grade one ( I use HMF Forte by Genestra Brands); every morning on an empty stomach before I eat or drink anything else. (So sort of how you would take an acid preventative medicine like Prevacid or Prilosec). it has helped me greatly with bloating overall.
What does your naturopath have you do for this condition? Do you take something?
Yes im on a lot of supplements. The first 14 days of my cycle I take flax seed oil caplets (2 a day) and supposed to include flax seed into my diet; the 15-28 days I then switch to Primrose oil caplets 2 a day and supplement with sunflower seeds. (its called an alternating seed diet); These fatty acids and seeds support your hormones.
I also take something called HerSynergy tablets 2x a day. it has Methylfolate which i need b/c I have MTHFR genetic mutation and cannot process folic acid. So I need to that Methylfolate format for my body to digest. It helps with Estrogen metabolization. I also take CBD oil daily and a few other supplements.
I no longer have cramps during my cycle, they are short, light bleeding, the acne is still an issue at times (but I find this is stress related); My boobs arent sore anymore.
For my moods I take something called Sepia..its a homeopathic remedy in pellet form. Works well for the moodswings when I want to punch someone i the face

Yes me. Always. Even when I was in my early 20s. I am relatively thin and in shape generally and eat well. BUT whenever I “diet” and loose 5-10lbs I find I don’t get the bloat! Went to doc today and foundnin a year I gained 10lbs. Now last year I had lost some weight for the summer. Right now I am abt to start dieting to get summer ready. And that is the ONLY thing that makes me not get bloated, or huge achy boobs
So you are saying when you diet and lose weight you find you don't get the bloat and boob pain during PMS? Really?? Wow that's interesting
I find it’s worse when my diet is horrible. So the combo of pms and carbs is killer for me. I also find my cycle in general is better when I’m eating better.

Re: PMS bloat
Yes, i find that my hormonal balance (amongst all things in my system) is better & my body runs smoother when I'm eating cleaner/ lighter. I heard on a podcast not too long ago, they were saying that when your body is charging up and the hormones start to elevate or deescalate - your gut microbiome changes & digestion starts to slow down because your body is too busy balancing the hormonal fluctuations.
Something like that. It made a lot of sense.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that!! The first few months were gross, but I'm about 4 years into it and it's amazing. I still get a PMS zit on my chin but other than that, I'm period-free!
