Please recommend a therapist in Queens or Nassau

I have always suffered from extremely intense anxiety, but it has gotten worse since the birth of my youngest child 3 weeks ago. It is so bad it is turning into depression. My in laws have a big 4th get together at their boat and this year it is so bad I didn't go. I stayed home with the baby and he took the older kids. I know my in laws were disappointed, a lot of their friends are there and they wanted them to meet the baby. But I can't do it.
I feel like I am a horrible mother, that my husband no longer loves me, and that my friends will no longer bother with me because I have 5 kids now, and they all have either 1 or 2- or none at all. So who will want to hang out with someone who has to bring her herd with her wherever she goes? The therapist I saw a few years ago has since retired, and I am desperate to call a few this week and get an appointment. I can't go on with this 24/7 feeling of panic. I live in Floral Park, but am willing to go anywhere in Queens or Nassau County. TIA Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just wanted to send big hugs!

You're husband loves you no matter what!

And any friend who no longer wants to bother with you was never a friend to begin with

You are a wonderful mother and the best example of that is asking for help and getting it.

If you ever need anything and I can help out please let me know

Hang in there!

Hofstra's Saltzman Center works specifically with anxiety. I started going there in November when I decided to get over the fear of flying (it had been 8 years since I flew) and I was able to take a flight in April, and have another lined up in August. We're working on personal stuff now, but after that I'll start working on my fear of driving on highways and parkways.

Oh no, Naturalmama. You're a natural mama. You're so good at what you do, being a mom doesn't define you. You're you, and you're good at it.
I love South Shore Counseling in Wantagh. If you can't get Tricia, then she can recommend someone just as good. I have a feeling she is the perfect fit for you. Chat Icon

I just wanted to send you some hugs. Have you spoken to your OB about these feelings? It really sounds like PPD triggered by your birth/pregnancy etc. I am 2 months Post Partum and my hormones felt so irrational and uncontrolable at times. You are a wonderful mom!! I hope you find someone to talk to and start to feel back to your old self asap.

Thank you everyone for the hugs, kind words, and recommendations. They mean SO much to me. Today, my 5 yr old & 3 yr old went to camp, the little ones went to my in laws, and I met a friend at the beach. Her kids were in camp also so it was a completely child free day. It was nice to have girl talk and to open up to her about my struggles. DH was out of work early enough to pick the girls up from his parents and get home to get the boys off the bus. So he text me and told me to go to dinner with my friend.
I just got home, all 5 kids fed dinner, bathed, and out cold. It was such a great day. Now I feel guilty that I loved a day where I spent no time with any of my children. I just can't win. I am calling a bunch of therapists tomorrow. Thank you all again, you have all been so helpful.

nO guilt! The house didn't crumble down, everyone's alive and well, and your heart didn't pound out of your chest for the first time in a long time. <--------- it took a lot of therapy for me to get here. I don't get out often, either but when I do, Hooray!

5 kids is an accomplishment, your husband loves you (think of it this way, he would have stopped before having 5 if he didn't love you).

Your kids are healthy, and happy even if they just watched tv and played with their toys.

Re friends, I have three little kids and work full time. I use to cater to my kidless friends going out right after work and completely missing any time with my kids outside of the getting ready in the morning... I stopped always doing that and some friends dropped off(including a best friend who only wanted to go out right after work so she didn't miss time with her boyfriend) But if they didn't want to alternate going out 7:30 at night, and I realized its their loss. But when I completely stop seeing friends I get more anxious on things because I am missing balance... My husband suggests I make plans with friends to go to dinner, paint nite etc. Its also important to try and get some date night time with hubby, drop kids off at relatives, go to the movies then eat...
