Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

I'm just over 11 weeks with my first, totally showing (at least if you know; otherwise, I probably just look fat), and am running out of clothes fast. Isn't this a little early to need maternity clothes??? I did buy some this weekend but I feel like it's too early to bust them out. A

lso, OMG the prices at Pea in a Pod for decent work clothes w/out bows and ruffles - WOW - what sticker shock! Where else can I get things that are not $$$$$ and not ridiculous looking?

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

i didn't need maternity clothes for quite awhile, mainly because i was heavy to begin with so i didn't show for awhile. i busted out the maternity things at about 20-22 weeks.

pea in a pod is insanely expensive and i refulsed to shop there, but that's just me. i found a lot of stuff at motherhood maternity and the quality has been great. i went to the one in the source and they always had aty least $5-$10 off the sticker price. i also found very cheap (I am talking $5-7 tops) at JCPenney and found a few things at Sears too. My mom found me a sweater or two at the Gap, but the only Gap that I know that carries maternity is in Manhattan, although I am sure you could buy online too.

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

I had to start wearing maternity clothes (tops and bottoms) at 12 weeks. I bought alot of my maternity clothes on ebay stores and motherhood maternity since im not working and needed to save a little money. Kohls.com also has some nice selections of shirt that are not that expensive. I love their side ruched shirts! They have it in 2 styles. I have all 4 colors.

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

i needed maternity clothes at the beginning of both pregnancies cause of the BLOAT. once that went away, i was able to go back into my regular clothes for a little while.

either way, 11 weeks isn't too early, imo. you need to be comfortable!

i found some stuff at mimi maternity. you might be able to find some non-maternity stuff in pregnancy-friendly styles at places like ann taylor loft and old navy.

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

When I was preggo with DS #1 I was working full time and had to get dressed everyday for work. I got almost all my stuff from either Gap, Old Navy or Motherhood Maternity. Gap is kind of pricey but I would use 20% off discount codes or wait for things to go on sale.

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

When I was preg with ds 3 years ago old navy used to have a great selection in store - today I was at the store at The Source and the selection was terrible - they literally had like 10 things in the maternity section.

I did well at the Maternity Works outlet upstairs and got 2 very nice capris (tan, black) on sale for like $16.99 - you can dress them up or down. I am a SAHM now but I still need clothes that fit Chat Icon I was preg with ds during a totally different season (he was born in oct so I was already VERY preg by summertime - now I am only 12 wks). I did see some expensive stuff today at maternity works that I didn't really venture to look at... My friend said Kohl's has a nice selection and good prices - in store.

GOOD LUCK!

H&M sells maternity clothes! By far my favorite place to shop when pregnant. They have alot of stretchy type shirts that you can wear before you really show, and they stretch with your belly!

first off - right now you are likely bloating... your size/shape will change daily - at times - it will feel like HOURLY!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i had great luck with JCPenney.com (they also have PLUS sized maternity clothing). I also had good luck with K-Mart - they have a small section - but VERY well priced and i LIVED in their maternity jeans (14 dollars - i got like 5 pairs and they were the ONLY ones i wore).

Kohl's has a small section...Target does too as does Walmart....all VERY well priced. Old Navy has a maternity section online - but i didn't like their quailty/sizing (again - i'm plus sized)...

GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

11 wks isn't too early!

I worked up to maternity clothes; started with the rubber band trick at 13/14 wks, moved to the bella band at 15/16 wks, and full out maternity at 22 wks.

I also lost 10-15 pounds last year so my clothes had "give".

I would recommend Motherhood for inexpensive clothes. The quality isn't great, but then again you only need the clothes for a finite period of time.

I looked at Pea in a Pod (too $$$), Gap (also too $$$ unless on sale), Old Navy (no luck except for jeans) and Macys (great non-maternity dresses that are roomy).

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

I started wearing maternity clothes around 11-12 weeks. I mixed them in with some of my larger regular clothes.

Now at 15w5d, I am solely in maternity clothes.

At first I was reluctant but, they are very comfy!

I've gotten most of my stuff from Motherhood - they are a lot less expensive than Pea in the Pod (we have a Destination Maternity in my mall so I've been comparison shopping). I've gotten a few things from Old Navy as well and luckily, DH's cousin just had a baby and gave me a bunch of clothes to help me get started.

I went to the Motherhood Outlet when I was on vacation in Myrtle Beach but, I found that they had a lot of regular Motherhood stuff - for the same price.

ETA - This is my first as well! My Dr told me do not compare myself to other pregnant people, everyone is different and their bodies react differently.

Motherhood maternity had wonderful things when I was pregnant. Try Old Navy too.

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

i have a few things from motherhood, but most of my tops have been either kohls, target, old navy, or JC Penny.

JC Penny had the best work pants for me, too! The Massapequa location has a pretty decent maternity selection.

I was just at the Gap in Roosevelt Field this past weekend and they had a pretty decent maternity section (MUCH better than the 4 racks they had at the Old Navy in The Source...)...

At almost 18 weeks I just started wearing some maternity pants for work, cause commuting to the city was just making me uncomfortable...they were a little pricier than I would've liked, but, the pants fit pretty well so I'm happy I got them...

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

I started to wear maternity pants at about 13-14 weeks also. And you will feel so much more comfortable. pea in a pod is crazy with there prices. I uslally go to macys in manhasset....they have a small section or to maternity wors in the source mall. they both carry motherhood.

Also try this site. http://www.destinationmaternity.com/Shop_category.asp

they carry all diffreent brands.

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

at 11 weeks i was way bloated. I bought a bella band to help keep wearing regular pants. the band is stretchy and comfy while keeping your jeans/pants unbuttoned and it helps keep them in place.

i then used a rubberband to hook around the button through the hole to keep my jeans closed. that worked fora while too.

I bought good maternity jeans at Old Navy..they have long lengths. I also got a lot of summer crops there too for good prices. I've been buying regular tops at NYCO, Gap, Old navy, just a size larger and thats worked out well.

Destination maternity carries Pea in a pod in the front of their stores..go to the back and the affordable stuff is there. Online too they have good sales.

I had no luck at target or kohls.

FYI: GAP has everything on sale now. I got tons of tshirts for $5.99 and 7.99 each..i just bought a size medium so they were a little longer in length to go over my belly.

Good luck

Re: Please make me feel better about maternity clothes

I was in maternity clothes at 11w just because they were so much more comfortable! I am all about the comfort factor!

That being said, I still can wear some regular tops even at 38w even though they are a little short...I just put a maternity cami or tank underneath.

I bought most of my clothes from Motherhood..I found them to be reasonably priced. Got all my work pants there. I also got some things from Sears and Target.

I was definately wearing maternity pants at 11 wks, shirts, I can still fit into mine. I am 15 wks. So don't feel bad! And yes, pea in a pod is too much! but in the back of the store in lake Grove, there are lower priced items that I bought for work.
