 | Please hug your babies FINAL UPDATE!!! I know it might seem crazy that I'm posting this tonight but I can't sleep at all and I'm trying to keep myself occupied so please no judgment.
I'm at stonybrook with my 5.5 month old daughter Lila. She's had a fever and awful cough since Saturday. We took her to the doctor on Sunday where she was diagnosed with bronchiolitis and sent home. We were told to give her albuterol and pulmocort via nebulizer and follow up in a week.

This afternoon, I noticed her breathing was pretty rapid. I gave her her treatment and it was still the same. I called and made her an appointment to see her pediatrician. We went, they gave her another treatment and after, there wasn't any change so her dr told me to take her to the hospital- that she might need back to back treatments and be observed, possibly be admitted. I stopped home quick to get DH, handed my 23m old to my mom who met me there, and we headed to stonybrook.

What happened next happened so fast. We went to triage, they took her oxygen levels, and they brought her into a room. Immediately the room was flooded with doctors and nurses. They put an oxygen mask over her face, but her levels remained low. They bagged her. The levels remained low. Then they went to intubate. Something happened then and they suddenly started calling a code and doing cpr. Her heart had stopped. She wasn't breathing. We watched as they kept working on her and working on her, pushing epi(?). They were finally able to resuscitate her and get her intubated. I don't know for sure how long she was without oxygen. It felt like forever.

They put her on a ventilator and we were transferred to the PICU where we waited for a couple of hours. They put in a central line in her neck. The doctor said we won't know if there will be any effects on her organs from her being without oxygen. As of right now, she's critical but stable. She is sedated with a bunch of wires and tubes coming out of her. On a positive note, her levels look good right now. She's responding to pain and moving a bit. The attending doctor said he is cautiously optimistic. I overheard the nurse tell the resident that his most critical patient became his most stable.

We have a bit of a long road ahead of us. We now know that she has RSV and the flu. Why her ped didn't check for the flu? No idea.

The doctors and staff and Sb have been amazing. Constantly updating us as much as they can, especially now that we're in the room with her. A child life worker who is also involved with the Ronald McDonald house here was with us from the time we were in that room in the ER until everything was done up in PICU, staying well after her shift was over to be with us until we got settled in Lilas room.

So please, hug your babies tonight. You never know what tomorrow can bring. We are so lucky we have survived tonight. You know it's bad when the ER doctors who saved your baby's life come up to check on her status when their shift is over.

And if you can spare some good vibes, juju, prayers- whatever you're into- please do.

 Thanks.

 | Re: Please hug your babies Oh my god!!!! How scary for you!!!! I'm so, so sorry to hear how sick your LO is, I hope that she continues to improve and has a speedy recovery. Many thoughts and for you and your family.
ETA - To add to your post, if you ever notice rapid breathing get your kids to the ped or ER fast!! My DS wasn't as sick as this but he ended up with pneumonia when he was 1 and he just kept getting worse and worse and then one morning I noticed his breathing was REALLY rapid, he could barely get a good breath in. I took him back to the ped again and they sent me right over to the ER, his oxygen levels were SO low (in the 70's) that he had to be on oxygen and IV meds for the pneumonia. ALWAYS trust your instincts when it comes to your kids!!!
