Please don't waste time...

Well girls, I am happy I made the move. GCIVF is a wonderful practice and Dr. P is extremely knowledgeable with my situation and with endo damage. Basically he told me what I already know- the endo has damaged my ovarian reserve. At 32, my eggs are aging at a fast rate and I will not be able to have a baby if I do not get pregnant within the next few years. It terrified me but it was something I already knew and needed to face. IUI's only have a small % of success with women in my situation. Basically, I wasted almost a year with a practice that did not look at my case individually.. who treated me without looking at my numbers, figures, results.. heck, they barely looked through my chart. I stupidly went along and now I know better. I just want to remind you ladies to take charge of your treatment when it comes to Infertility. Do not waste time and get another opinion if things do not seem right. I kept going back to her out of fear of change. I lost precious time. Dr. P said the same things that a brilliant RE told me when I first had my endo surgery at 23. The Cornell Dr said my TIME IS LIMITED. I didn't believe him, I was basically a kid thinking I was invincible. Now almost ten years later, I am so humbled by this card that was given to me. All my FDH could do was give me a kiss on my forehead and tell me everything is going to be okay. Part of me feels BLESSED to have a DS already and to have found this info at this age instead of my late 30's. I would have had no eggs by then. The things I have going for me are my age, healthy uterus and lining, and healthy cycles. I really believe once I get a healthy egg/sperm connection going, I can carry a pregnancy to term. I just have to get that one lucky egg! He said I will only produce 1-2 healthy eggs a year naturally at this point (main reason for all of my chemicals). I am taking DHEA now and preparing myself for IVF. I want a baby so bad. I want to give my DS a brother or sister. He prays every night for a sibling and it breaks my heart. I just feel helpless. Dr. P also said that I am not a candidate for PGD bc it may damage a healthy embryo and in my case, I may only have one or two good quality ones total so it is too risky. I am just leaving this up to God and trying to keep my faith. Part of me is devastated and part of me is envigorated to fight harder! Thank you for listening, girls. I always find such comfort in this board. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it's such a blessing that you switched RE's. I know hindsight is 20/20 but don't be hard on yourself about the "wasted time". Your rainbow baby is coming. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wish you luck with your new dr. We all need to take charge of our fertility and health. We are the ones that live in our bodies. An RE is there to assist and guide but they are human and they dont know everything. Certain RE's and RE practices are not right for everyone. Same as with what treatment works for one may not work for another person. Be your own advocate because nobody else will!!!

Glad you got answers and more insight. Dealing with any medical issue, I really believe you need to believe your own advocate. I think all doctors are trying to help, but second opinions are very valuable.

Good Luck!

Have to agree with this 100%. Working in the field you see so much happen, you'd be so surprised. Medicine, most of the time, is trial and error - doctors are trying to piece together diagnoses from a list of symptoms - sometimes there's an easy test that gives a definitive answer, but a lot of the time there isn't. Don't be afraid to offend your doctor!!!! A lot have that "God Complex" thing going on, but that's THEIR issue and protecting their feelings does nothing to help your situation!

Exactly! More women need to be advocates for their treatment!

And what sucks is that for women it's even worse! So often doctors (even fellow women doctors) tend to think it's stress or in our heads... IT'S NOT (always, sometimes it may be, lol)!!! We have to speak up for ourselves and make sure that we are heard. If your doctor doesn't listen to you, go find another doctor. I HATE HATE HATE when doctors talk down to me because I'm a women (I get it from colleagues too and it drives me insane).

Re: Please don't waste time...

And with this particular office, unfortunately there was no piecing together or problem solving. They never tried to look deeper no matter how I pushed. It just wasn't the right fit for my type of issue. I'm not blaming them anyway. I blame myself for knowing they suck and still trying to have faith in them. Another learning experience maybe. I just hope this road will lead me to my little munchkin bc it doesn't look easy. Nothing is ever easy with me lol Chat Icon

He wants to see my cd3 bw next week to see how to proceed. He is also repeating my amh again. Then we will decide if we should try another iui with inj or go straight to ivf. My chances with iui are slim being that I have one tube so he's not thrilled with that option. I rather just begin the ivf process bc FDH has a pretty serious male factor that is hurting our chances also. At this point, I don't want to waste any more time and I'm turning 32 next week. I need to get these embies frozen. I responded great to meds so there's a chance I may respond well to ivf meds. I will know more next week when labs come back.

How many IUIs have you done? I have only one tube/ovary and my RE was hesitant about an IUI because of this. I said I wanted to try one round of IUI with femara and a trigger shot. It didn't work so went straight to IVF.

Yea my new RE has no idea why they did 4 iui's when I have a tubal issue. He said my chances are so low and I should have gone straight to IVF a long time ago if this many failed. :/

Re: Please don't waste time...

We both have similar issues. 1 blocked tube, very low AMH and bad endo. Dr. Stelling told me from the beginning that IVF is my best bet and he didn't want to waste too much time on IUIs. But because that's the only coverage I have, we had to try the IUIs first (as per me) I did get pregnant on my 3rd which wasn't viable and now I am about to do IUI #3 again since our loss.

I am surprised that whatever RE you were seeing didn't tell you what Stelling told me at my first consult. This is why he is my favorite Dr. there. Not only did he give it to me straight, but he also listens to me. Answers every question I have and makes sure I understand the answers.

I'm sorry you feel like your last RE wasted your time Chat Icon I hope your new RE is the right fit for you.
